More prayer needed for my family. My son was having troubles with the side of his big toe, at the edge of the toenail...I took him to urgent care/walk-in clinic and they said he had an infection and we should soak it in epsom salts, keep it clean and keep the toenails cut even. They gave him some antibiotics.
He went to camp the first week of June and when he came home, the other foot had sores on both sides of the big toe! ...and the first toe was worse. We cleaned them the same as the other foot, tried to keep them cleaned up and soaked them and then wrapped them before he went to camp for the second week. He got back Saturday and the toes were oozing puss and crusty and bloody. They were so bad I called everyone in my phone book to beg for a ride to the urgent care.
Finally found a ride and when they saw his toes, they said "this is bad". They searched for signs of an ingrown toenail in both toes and said that was not the issue. They said it was important to get him in to see a podiatrist, immediately. They prescribed a cream for the toes (the cream was denied by our insurance), told us to clean both toes with peroxide, put the cream on the sides of the nails where the nail meets the skin, cover with a 2x2 piece of gauze then wrap with gauze wrap (the disposable kind). They gave us a few pieces of gauze and a small amount of the wrap, but no tape. I got a few latex gloves to keep from passing anything to his toes and taking a chance of making the infection worse. At this point, it looks like he will lose his toenail at minimum...and if things dont get done quickly, he could lose both big toes. I am using neosporin ointment in place of the prescription cream they wanted used.
Cody needs prayers, really bad! Please...pray for Cody's medical needs. Also, does anyone have any medical supplies they don't need anymore? We need 2x2 gauze, 4x4 gauze (for cleaning), gauze wrap (2"wide roll)...bigger would probably be ok...peroxide, medical tape...the nylon style would be easier but any available would help!! Neosporin cream, cotton swabs to apply the ointment. Please, if you have any of these, contact me and I will give you an address. I am praying several people will have bits and pieces they are willing to send so I get a little bit of everything needed. God bless you all for the prayers and any help provided for the supplies.
Another issue, does anyone know how to treat poison ivy? He either has a rash that is from poison ivy or from a reaction to something he is allergic to.
It’s okay, no worries. It was a box with different sizes of gauze pads and rolls, medical tape, bandages, antibiotic ointment, and a huge box of cotton swabs. Basic stuff. It’s possible it got lost. I suppose I should put a trace on it.
We are still waiting for an appointment with the infectious disease doc. That is going to be on the 25th (that was their earliest available) unless something comes up sooner, like someone cancels their appointment. In the meantime, we are still changing the dressing on his toes 3 times a day and still having troubles with oozing, crusting, swelling of the skin on the sides of the toes to the point that it is growing over about 1/2 the toenail. I have to clean under it thoroughly to keep it from crusting closed. There was help for supplies and that was so totally appreciated! It goes quickly when you have to change it 3 times a day, but I’m praying the doctor we are going to in 6 days will be willing to help with the supplies to keep his toes from danger. We are back to using toilet paper, paper towels, house tape. We tore up a couple white shirts to use them, but they are gone now and I can’t tear up any more as those were my son’s school uniform shirts. Continued prayers that all will work out ok would be appreciated. Please pray that his infection is NOT MRSA and that he doesn’t lose his toes, I pray for blessings for those who helped with supplies. God Bless you all and thank you so much for your prayers!
We haven’t heard an update on your daughter in awhile - how is she doing?
Oh, so glad you asked. She and her friend are living in an apartment in the city. It's small and in a not-so-nice neighborhood, but they are looking for something better, and hoping for something closer to me so she can come help me sometimes. The july 4th holiday was rough as someone blew the mailbox off the side of the building and set an m80(?) on the window ledge. They feel somewhat threatened by this, but they are trying to be as careful as possible until they can get moved. She is filing for disability as she still has issues with her conversion disorder...losing her sight and losing the use of her legs. She is much more up-beat now that they have a place and are not under the bridge. They pay a neighbor $20 a month to share the internet, so they can get online and watch movies and use google for a phone. I'm very proud of her though there are some things I wish she would do different. She could still use prayers (can't we all!!!???). Thank you!

(((((Sending Heartfelt Prayers)))))
BTTT
epsom salt
When my hand was infected, the doc told me to soak it in epsom salt. Teaspoon per cup Hot.
It’s cheap and easy, and it works. Get on it!
We did that for a few weeks but we have since been told to back off that until after seeing the ID doc as they are afraid the warm water soak might help increase the chance for more infection.
That’s terrible that you’re using your son’s good shirts this way. Are they under shirts or something expensive? Are they some he’s outgrown, or will you have to replace them for the new school year?
I know you hate her being in such a neighborhood. But as you said, she’s not under a bridge.
Is her friend still receiving just disability, or has he been able to find some type of work?
They were his good school shirts, part of his school uniform. They were some he was still able to wear and I will eventually have to find a way to replace them. The only problem is, they were the only “white” shirts that I could find to use for bandages. I was trying to keep from having to use toilet paper and paper towels which are leaving particles in the wounds and making it very hard to keep them clean. I know it’s terrible I used his school shirts like that, it was very rude that I had to use HIS shirts...and believe me, I feel horrible for doing it.
I hate that you had to do that. Gauze and tape would have been so cheap compared to school uniforms. I hope they aren’t the expensive kind you have to order.
I’ve been gone a while and just noticed a PM from you. I’ll respond when I have some time.
Do they feel they were being targeted somehow, or it was just someone being foolish with a prank?
Thank you for the update. Prayers continue...
They can be replaced by any white shirt that doesn't have a logo on it and is long enough to tuck-in. Potentially inexpensive if I can find something that fits the requirement...though horrifying expensive considering the state of my finances.
When they blew the mailbox off the side of the building, the kids called the police to report the vandalism. After that, it got worse and then the M80 on the windowsill. They do feel like the longer it went on, the more the vandals were targeting them because they had called the police. Problem is, this neighborhood is in the "hood" and there is gunfire every night, and a murder from a home invasion just 2 blocks away not too long ago. They don't feel totally safe there, but yet they know it's better than when they lived under the bridge!
Will keep you and Cory in my prayers,
Thank YOU and everyone else who is keeping my boy in your prayers. I'm not sure if this was a typo or not, but just thought I would let you know it's Cody who is needing the prayers. Thank you again!
Just my stupid tablet.
