I don't know what kind of antibiotic your son was first prescribed, but some antibiotics might not work for a staph infection in a toe. (The reason I know is that once a DR prescribed an antibiotic for my son who had a toe infection, and when it didn't work, I researched and found out that that type - which I think was amoxicillin - won't work for a toe.)
Gosh I have never heard of a family as riddled with health issues as yours.... there should be a case study done. Very sad. I’m not sure if I can find the help for you but if you send me an address I will see what I can find.
they have him on cephalexin, 500 mg. Not sure if this is one that is good or not. But I will make sure and mention that to the doctor today and see what they want to do about it.
Thank you so much for keeping us in your prayers!
Prayers for God’s blessings.
Do you have any home recipes for a good bug repellent? I hate to go out in the garden these days because the gnats, chiggers, biting flies, and probably even ticks lie in wait for me.
I have tried Cutter’s and OFF, but they only seem to make matters worse.
Thank you in advance.
A woman recently told me that she uses lavender water as a bug repellent. She makes it simply by adding a few drops of lavender oil to water in a spray bottle. She says she buys the lavender oil in a health food store.
I haven’t tried it myself yet - I’m still looking for lavender oil - but she claims it works.
We just got back from the doctor’s office...she is going to refer him to see the podiatrist but she didn’t take this seriously. I shouldnt’ have cleaned it prior to going in today...I should have left it looking ugly from when he woke up this morning...she said it looked good, I said “yeah, I cleaned it...but it will be UGLY in 30 minutes if it is left unwrapped!” I don’t feel like she took it seriously at all...and this boy is my world, his health is my #1 concern! She did tell me to quit using peroxide and to start using a non sudsy cleaning solution...she said there were some that could be gotten from the store (again, what part of NO INCOME is so hard to understand!!!???) I still have to clean and dress it 3 times a day, and was told the ointment we got is an antibiotic ointment and she gave him a shot of a very heavy duty antibiotic to try to kick the infection out quicker. We have an appointment to see the podiatrist on Thursday morning, setting up transportation for that as I type. Thank you for the continued prayers.
I think cephalexin (a.k.a. Keflex) is the antibiotic that’s supposed to work for staph on a toe. Cephalexin was the second antibiotic prescribed to my son after the amoxicillin didn’t work.
Of course, in the end, it turned out that he didn’t have staph at all, but that’s another story.
I hope the shot helps him. Thanks for letting us know what’s happening.
Thank you for keeping us informed. Prayers continue...
get a small pack travel size of sensitive skin baby wipes. cut then in half if you can. Does what she wants cleaning wise and won’t cost more than a $1 or 2. store brand is OK.
Trussell, my husband has an infection of the skin around his toe, and the doctor prescribed Mupirocin 2%. Apparently it’s a generic version of a med called Bactroban.
We paid $14 at Walmart.
My insurance paid for the “ointment” but the doctor wanted him to have the cream as the ointment is oilbased and keeps the air from getting through to the skin while the cream allows the air to get to the skin and help with the healing.
Okay, I see. I replied to you in Freepmail.
Do you still need the gauze and tape, etc?
Glad to hear you were able to get the mupirocin. Even though the doc preferred the cream, the ointment is an excellent barrier — and as long as it’s the same med, it should work the same.
In another post you mentioned that the podiatrist said the wounds are looking good. That’s wonderful to hear! And I’d say that right there is answered prayer!
Prayers are up for your son and for you, trussell.
It was the doctor , primary care, who said they looked good, but that was after I had dug all the scabbing, oozing, crusting yuck out of it only a few hours earlier...in about an hour more, if that...they were nasty again. She just didn’t seem to understand what I was saying. :(
I have no doubt that God is answering the prayers and I am so greatful and thankful for that.
Yes, at this point I have been using toilet paper, papertowels etc... and I am using bandaids and household tape to hold them on his toe. It doesn’t hold very well and everything falls off during the night and then his toes rub on his blankets and everything bleeds all over his bedding. ...and the TP gets stuck in the sores.
Pm me an address and I will see what I can do
