WASHINGTON, D.C. The federal governments attempt to force public school students to eat healthier lunches is falling apart at the seams.
Most recently, the School Nutrition Association which initially championed the new federal lunch standards on fruits, vegetables, salt, fat, sugar and virtually every other aspect of school lunches when they were implemented in 2012 is now lobbying Congress to dial back the overly prescriptive and expensive changes, the New York Times News Service reports.
Congress is listening, and it is considering legislation to delay the nutrition regulations for a year, some of which have already gone into effect. But some of the associations onetime allies in the school-meal campaign are mystified, if not suspicious, concerning the groups motivations, the news service reports.

School Nutrition Association = Racist
is “nutrition” the new N word ?
Another failure from the administration of failures led by the king of failures.
School boards don’t need to ‘fight’ regulations. All they need do is stop taking their thirty pieces of silver from the FEDs.
What the schools are trying to do is to placate the students, the parents, and the Feds (even if they are balking at the ‘regulations’). If they didn’t take the damn money in the first place, the Feds wouldn’t be in the schools to start with.
I wish I could “like” this.
Michelle Obama isn’t the ‘feds’.
She has no official power. She is using so-called regulations which are just conditions for Federal money to schools.
These breakfasts, lunches, and healthy snacks are FREE to people in areas with poverty. It's absurd that the parents don't even have to use part of that child's food stamp allocation to pay for them. Even with that, complaining to the feds and the media isn't a solution for the kids.
Many if not most schools use pre-packaged food that's heated and served by cafeteria workers, served in fast food wrapping....there isn't much cooking going on. It's provided by a major food distributor. Thus, one option would be to make a healthy and delicious soup, stew, or sandwich (etc) from scratch.
I've been to some schools that offer excellent food (honest). They do it by working with the distributor to make healthy edible choices. For the fresh fruit....some offer rotted refuse, some offer high quality delicious fruit and veggie choices. It's all in how the school program is handled.
What's my point? Of course the feds shouldn't be involved in local food programs. But neither should those who don't like what they're getting whine to everyone else. They should bring their own food or work with the administration and cafeteria staff and demand they make healthy choices.
When my kids were little and in school, each year I’d invariably get a “questionnaire” from the school regarding who I worked for, what work I did.
The real thrust of the questionnaire was that they were looking for government employees, military members and private company contractors who worked on government programs.
I fit one of those categories, but I categorically refused to answer them, and I replied in writing why.
They were using the information to get more money from the Federal government in addition to the money they took from me in school assessments on the property tax levies.
Greedy lazy money grubbers who used that money to bloat their administrations and create more worthless jobs in the school system that didn’t contribute squat to my kids’ educations.
