Yellowstone Closes Road Because It's Melting (What a world, what a world)
Newser ^ | July 20, 2014 | John Johnson

You'll never guess why "Firehole Lake Drive" is temporarily off-limits to tourists in Yellowstone National Park. Yes, the popular 3.3-mile loop is closed for a while because the asphalt is melting, reports National Parks Traveler. "Extreme heat from surrounding thermal areas has caused thick oil to bubble to the surface, damaging the blacktop and creating unsafe driving conditions," says a park release. While that kind of thing isn't uncommon given Yellowstone's geology, the damage to the road is "unusually severe," reports the AP.

Think of the bright side. It would stop the invasion at the border.

Yeah...the border will be covered 20 feet deep in hot volcanic rocks....

Should take care of any infectious diseases lurking.

Yellowstone has mostly spewed ash this far down, historically.

If Yellowstone blows - well - how 'bout we let Bill Paxon frame it for us here:

GAME OVER MAN!

Literally, game over for all but about 50K people on Earth.

“We really do not want that volcano to erupt”

The one good thing that would probably happen would be to wipe out the ethanol corn and the property they grow it on for a period of time!!!

If you should happen to want to see Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise (I saw it twice) Paxton does a great job as a Master Sergeant. To me, it was worth the price of admission.

If she blew, I’d bet the Mexican Army would be on the border in full force to keep the Gringos out.

I'm ok with that. My ancestors got the best part of Mexico a few hundred years ago. I don't feel a need to move south.

“Well, that’s why they have some of those places around there with boardwalks ... so you don’t fall through the surface and boil to death ... :-) ...”

The last time I was there (last fall), I purposefully and carefully checked the temperature under one of these “boardwalks”. Let’s just say I wanted to get a feel for it.

There was steam coming up all around, yet the water where I checked was cool.

True, from what I understand that the Volcano ash or soil is pure to plant with.

I’ve taken trails in the back areas of Yellowstone to some of these smokestack or chimney geysers, and have looked down the stack - hoping they wouldn’t be spouting off at the same time I was looking down them. I was walking very gingerly on the ground around them, making sure I wasn’t going to fall through a thin crust, either ... :-) ...

I couldn’t find a good picture of one, or I would have included it here.

Someone check his schedule. Does anyone know if there is a Golf Course or a Pool Table in that area?

Testosterone poisoning. I understand. I've got it too.

Makes for good pictures sometimes.

Or front-page news stories.

Yes I remember how the enviro Nazis were stating that it would take 100 years for the tree and plants to grow back. Hello within a year trees were growing and plants sprouting much more that it was a food source for the deers and other animals

Think of the bright side. It would stop the invasion at the border.

But the survivers would be invading Guatemala.

Very familiar with that. I've dug to the ash level here a few times.
