My wife and I witnessed a single light heading from low in the sky from the Austin area and headed NW over our area in Lago Vista about an hour ago. We were sitting outside waiting for the unusually bright moon to come up which was a bust.
I had just gotten outside after my shower after my shift at the local hardware store, sat down and she said "What the hell is that?" pointing to the east. Whatever it was, was a mercury vapor colored light traveling at a high rate of speed and broke into two lights. No sonic boom, just one light that broke into two lights.
good question. Maybe it had a tail at one point but survived “entry” before breaking apart?
The Brown Mountain Lights have moved to over Texas?

I have not read or heard of any UFO activity, either here or in Europe for instance, in some time. Has anyone else heard differently?
KISS and Def Leppard were playing at the Austin 360. That could have been it.

I saw several of them in the night sky over Arizona. The ones I saw sped off at what looked like the speed of light.

A meteor crossed the sky over North Texas on July 12 at 9 pm, enthralling many around
Dallas who watched as it split into two before its inevitable fade.

witnessed what some described as a double meteor, with two streams of blue-green light
racing across the sky to the west.
“It was a couple minutes after 9 pm, and we saw a light coming out of the Southeast,”
Prendergast says. “At first, I thought it was a plane because it was pretty bright.
But it was moving so quick. We probably saw it for a good 15 seconds because it was
coming right at us. It was one light coming, but then it broke into two. We could
see a tail on it before it slowly melted away.”
We saw it here in central Texas (Belton) exactly as you described it. When it was approaching it was super bright and I thought it was a plane until I noticed the high speed and then it passed by low and split in two blue lights and vanished. I’ll let you know if I find any more news about it. Thanks for the report!
