I'll have to get out my old vinyl and listen to Johnny Winter And. Saw him three times in the early 1970s. RIP to a one of a kind blues guitarist.

I’m surprised he lasted this long.

Saw that shortly after AP came out with the news. He was rode hard and put away wet. Great blues player, definitely had his head and heart into it.

Which by the by is a great album. His solo on “Cheap Tequila” is right from the heart.

Damn. He’s one of my blues heroes since I started loving the blues when I little kid 30 years ago. Rest well my friend.

Houston 1978 walking to work downtown on Friday morning. There was an old Caddy with big fins sitting on a vacant lot all the doors open and Johnny Winter plus another guy and 2 girls passed out. The aftermath of his Thursday night concert. Surprised he lasted this long.

That was the first song that popped into my head when I read the headline. Of course the second thought I had was, well I guess not anymore.

Yep...he liked to party. I saw him in Philly around 1974 after he got out of rehab. The crowd was nuts & rowdy and wanted to hear Johnny. Poco got booed off the stage. Johnny came out and just played and played and came back for 3 encores. THOSE were the days!

12/05/03 Johnny Winter performed at an older restored theater north of Boston (Arlington?). My guy at the time invested in front row meet-after-the-show VIP passes. It was beyond incredible to not only hear him play, but watch his finger work. What he created was magical, especially considering he spent most of his later life transcending disabilities.

Will there ever be musicians of the caliber and passion of the blues from Johnny Winter and his peers?

RIP, Johnny Winter. Your music will never die.

Is there a video of him that someone could post?

I listen to his great blues at least twice a week. Friday is always 'headphones-on-listening-to-the-blues' day at work.
I love that 145 he does on "Kind Hearted Woman Blues". It just flows. I wish I could play like that.

He will be missed.

A guitarist (Rick Derringer) from my hometown of Dayton Ohio played in his band for a while.

Saw him in a surprise guest appearance at a Janis Joplin Concert in Boston, many, many years ago.

I was AWESTRUCK.
