A 400-pound asthmatic Staten Island dad died Thursday after a cop put him in a chokehold and other officers appeared to slam his head against the sidewalk, video of the incident shows.
I cant breathe! I cant breathe! Eric Garner, 43, repeatedly screamed after at least five NYPD officers took him down in front of a Tompkinsville beauty supply store when he balked at being handcuffed.
Within moments Garner, a married father of six children with two grandchildren, stopped struggling and appeared to be unconscious as police called paramedics to the scene. An angry crowd gathered, some recording with smartphones.

There's a lack of information in the articles. They may have observed the sale earlier. They may have had a warrant. We don't have enough information.
re: post 80.
I still can’t tell if the problem is your reading or comprehension skills. The post to which you referred says nothing that you insinuate.
RE: Your post 26:
“Its a shame the guy died, but its his own damn fault.”
Yeah. blame the dead guy!
THAT’s ALWAYS correct.
“He was breaking the law.”
Really?
Where are the cigarettes?
And simply objecting to the cops harassing you is not grounds for arrest.
“Cops tried to arrest him.”
Yes, without probable cause, no cigarettes were present.
“He resisted. Anytime you resist arrest, youre asking for trouble.”
False, as shown by the link in post 45.
The police were inhumane and stupid. The man weighed 400 pounds, and I SERIOUSLY
doubt that he could even touch his fingertips together behind his back, let alone lock his
wrists together.
And when a man is on the ground with a bunch of thugs whacking his head on the concrete
sidewalk and choking him, and he SCREAMS (possibly more like “wheezes”) out “I can’t
breathe!” six or seven times before dying, I would say that the cops actions were ‘way over
the top.
This was murder by negligent, cruel, inhumane cops who should get tossed into the general population when they go to prison for their crime. And get those tats acid-etched off them.
From what I have seen on watching the t.v. program, COPS, his “mouthing off” could have a simple “why?” from him.
Read post 26.
That’s too hard.
And post 83 claims that post 26 isn’t saying what it says.
That doesn’t mean “this is okay” supposedly..
It took 26 posts, but they got here.
I know.
Amazing, isn’t it?
Sickening.
Exactly! They need some people skills.
The old “Are you going to believe me or your lying eyes” response. Usually after they have been caught with their hand full of cookies in the jar.
Yup.
Hand stuck in the jar, unable to be retrieved, and claiming “that isn’t what you see.”
I would need to know more about the reason they were questioning him, but from what I can tell so far, is that they were legitimately asking him about selling back market smokes. He did not need to resist.
Your mindset would fit in well in Nazi Germany.Your comments show absolutely no humanity, only the blind whorship of the righteousness of abusive cops.
There is absolutely no reason for the criminal cops to escalate the incident in the way they did -- inhumane and cruel.
He did not need to resist.
yeah and they did not need to arrest or kill him either...
when is it time to resist? after you are dead?
RIP.
I could have exported a few from the Curtis Reeves popcorn shooting thread. I slipped up.
