Man Says Police Wouldn’t Let Him Help His Dog After They Shot It

Theall told the TV station that he is less angry about the shooting since the officer was likely surprised. But what did upset him was the officer’s refusal to let Theall and his wife take Doctor for treatment for more than an hour.

The officer even twice used his police cruiser to block the man from getting help for the dog, Theall claims.

“No steps were taken by DeKalb police whatsoever to try to save my dog’s life,” he said.

“The dog was still alive, clearly bleeding like crazy and the police officer blocked my exit,” Theall continued.

“Finally he convinced me that I would be thrown in jail if I didn’t just stay where I was.”

She also said that the police officer who pulled the trigger said that animal control were on their way to assist Doctor.

“I find out that animal control was told to come pick up a dead dog and had no idea about the dog needing help,” wrote Theall’s wife.

A DeKalb County police spokesman said that he understands the couple’s frustration but that police officers kept Doctor at the scene in order to preserve evidence of the shooting.

So if I ever see a police officer shot, I shouldn't call an ambulance - I should leave him at the scene to preserve evidence of the shooting? Got it.

This is indeed horrible — and it’s not as if there were major crimes in progress and criminals shooting. The police responded to a burglar alarm going off, which turned out to be a false alarm.

What is this “see a dog, shoot it” attitude that some policemen — too many of them — have?!

Then top it off with not allowing the owner to treat his dog and take it to a vet “to preserve evidence” — you made an excellent analogy.

There is no reason for conservatives to support the police anymore. They aren’t the good guys. They are the bad guys with badges.

Back about the mid 1980’s I noticed that a lot of cops had the idea they were living as their favorite character in a cop TV show, they couldn’t tell life and TV apart.

They lived in a fantasy world created by TV.

I call it ‘badge Viagra’. Some departments obviously don’t do rigorous enough psychological screening to filter out the candidates who show signs of latent thuggery.

It’s not just their attitude towards dogs. They truly believe they are above the law. Try this link, if you can put up with it -I was personally cursing quite vehemently only a few seconds into it...

I was at a Tea Party (sort of) rally last weekend. The featured speaker was a Sheriff Richard I Mack. Fascinating delivery of a speech. The wife unit and I ended up buying three of his books and one of the books has a forward written by Joe Arpaio.

This Sheriff explained how a Sheriff is the ultimate law enforcement authority in his county and this country and they need to protect the people (his boss) in all matters.

This guy even sued Bill Clinton and won in the Supreme Court!

We need Constitutional Sheriffs like him and less police officers who just do what they think is right rather than what is Constitutional.

I haven’t watched any kind of weekly cop TV show in 25 years probably.

Every cop thought they were a TV cop and every attorney thought they were a TV attorney.

I often watch the TV show Cops; that I rarely see anything that could be construed as police miscoduct leads me to conclude two things; first, cops are on their best behavior when on camera; and second, any instance of misbehavior ends up “on the cutting room floor.”

The cops obviously told Animal Control to come pick up a dead dog because that’s what they expected the result to be.

Back in the late 70’s, there was 3 of us in the truck and I was driving.

Got stopped by a cop that thought he was a Billy bad ass and he wanted to impress the other cops.

He was smoking a cigar and kept blowing smoke in my face.

I told him to stop and he wanted to know what I was going to do if he didn’t.

I told him to find out.

He flipped the ashes in my face and I proceeded to slap the cigar out of his hand.

He tried to handcuff me and soon found himself flat on his ass.

He tried to get the other cops to help him and they said no. They told him he started it he could finish it.

He tried to handcuff me again and again he was flat on his ass.

A highway patrolman walked up and told him if he tried to handcuff me again he would be handcuffed.

That finally calmed him down, he was about to loose control and go completely nuts. He was going to show me who was boss one way or another.

I’m not sure but I think he’s retired now.

He was a cop that never really did grow up and get the “I’m a Billy bad ass” out of him his entire career.
