Need Home For two Black Labs Or They Go To Pound
7/26/14 | OneVike

Posted on 07/26/2014 9:52:59 PM PDT by OneVike

OK, I do not normally go out of my way for something like this, but I cannot sit back and do nothing when a young girl asks me to help. So, I am stepping up to see if anyone is willing to help, because this is an emergency. I have a friend, has done all she can to find a home for her two black Labrador dogs, Who have been together since they have been puppies. My friend Megan is just 15, and I am a friend of her grandfather, but she friended me on facebook and has become a good friend. Well, Megan's family is moving from Chico to Rancho Cordova and pets are not allowed at the new residence.

One is a male of almost 5 named Liberty, and the other is a female name Freedom of the same age. Liberty is not fixed, but Freedom is, and a home is needed by tomorrow or they go to the pound.

I know this is an extremely shorty notice, but I found out about the situation less than an hour ago, when Megan sent me a personal message pleading for my help. I promised I will do all I can, but even then I could not promise success.

We live in Chico California, so if anyone lives in this vicinity and has an ability to help, I am pleading on behalf of Megan for some help.

This is her plea,My two black labs "Freedom" (Male) & "Liberty" (Female), cannot go with us. I need to know by tomorrow (at the absolute LATEST) if anyone can take them. They're about 5 years old and they're good dogs. Liberty is fixed but Freedom is not. If you can only take one that's fine too. Although they've been together pretty much since birth so it may be hard on them. Contact me as soon as possible. If YOU cant take them ask someone in your family. It would be much appreciated. My grandma said the only other option is to take them to the pound and I don't wanna do that.

Liberty (Male) approx 5 years old

Freedom (Female) approx 5 years old

Shame on you! Maybe Grandma didn’t tell her until today that the dogs couldn’t come with her. Besides, you have no idea what she is doing on her own to find the dogs a home.

“Besides, you have no idea what she is doing on her own to find the dogs a home.”

Well, she had to know they are moving and if I could find several potential no-kill shelters in minutes, without having any familiarity with the area, it does make one wonder. I certainly believe that OneVike had no advanced notion, but the girl should have known.

Happy Tails requires no donations. I get the impression they have a large endowment from an inheritance. Even adopting animals is low cost. . . we got one cat for $25, second free and even discounts off that for seniors. They do spaying, chipping, shots, everything. It’s all run by volunteers.

The girl is 15, which means she can’t drive. Tomorrow (right now!) is Sunday, another potential impediment...

Thanks, I’m looking, but that no kill adopt a pet I was given a link to seems like the best chance if no home is found.

I sent my sis & BIL a message, he hunts and uses a lab. They may know someone looking. If they get back to me I will let you know. They’re in Sac. I hope she can find them a home!

Here are a couple more no-kill shelters in Chico, Ca:

Chico, CA 91710 Cats/Dogs All All Paws Rescue-Rehabilitation and Education Yes

http://www.allpawsrescue-rehab.org/#

Chico, CA 95928 Cats/Dogs All Butte Humane Society

http://buttehumane.org/

from:

http://pgaa.com/index.php/california-rescue-listings/

Both the above say they are no-kill shelters, but I would double check, just to make sure.

Labradors are probably the best dogs, in general, if a family has young children. They score amongst the lowest in terms of having a predatory instinct.

I find it hard to believe that people who know this woman wouldn’t be willing to adopt them just on the basis that labs tend to be great dogs in general.

If I were in a stable position and lived within 50 miles, I’d take them in.

They may have explored all their options to see if there was someway to get a family member to take them in.
