Yeah, I learned BASIC and LOGO on the TI-99 when I was just a pup. We skipped the Apples though, and went for the Commodore Amiga after that. That was a machine before its time!
I don’t want that much out of life, I just want to be able to play PS2 games on a PS3 . . . really, is that axing too much?
I have no interest whatsoever in using a cloud to store personal documents and data.
I have a TI-99/4A but I still use the cassette drive.
Damn!
I didn't know they made a 4-device KVM switch!
I now need one.
yeah imagine the nerve of a company not wanting to support a product 14 years old and built on an obsolete architecture.
That's among the top 5 most condescending and arrogant, smug posts I have seen in my 15 years in FR.
Have you considered volunteering for the Amazon Paper White Kindle help forum?
We mostly used the cassettes too, but the floppy was useful for saving documents and stuff. I think that expansion module also included a RAM upgrade as well.
GMC still supports my truck.
Sure if you pay them.
Microsoft will support XP if you pay them.
Are factory parts still available for Fords Model T?
“So if someone gets your log in and password they will have access to everything you have saved? What could go wrong with that?”
That is one of my concerns. Another is the push by MS to advertise use of the cloud (clod) storage for a year without charge. After that cloud storage will cost. I have a cloud at home that I disconnect from my computer when I connect to the internet. It’s a USB hard drive that holds sensitive financial information as well as that which is mundane. A look at my account in Outlook and I marvel at the number of attempts worldwide by those who would access an email account! I change the password often on a whim in an attempt to thwart access by lowlifes.
The directions we are being driven towards by MS, Google and Apple are not conducive to privacy. Live apps running in the background? BS!!! Never mind the N.S.A.
Haha, yes it would be like if GM removed the steering wheel and substituted rudder pedals and a stick, then wondered why everyone wanted to keep driving their old cars.
Keep in mind, this is just some tech writers spitballing about what features might be included in Win9, we really don’t know if any of it will actually happen.
Buying a computer with Windows 7 this week, and its an expensive one, so Windows 9 will probably be the first time I pay to just upgrade Windows.
The reason I am optimistic about 9 is that there is a pattern.
2000 - crap
XP - good
Vista - crap
7 - good
8 - crap
9 - ...
I hope they have learned their lesson from the steaming pile that 8 was. Ugh. If I wanted a damn tablet, I’ll buy a tablet. Stop trying to turn my laptop into a tablet! I don’t want to swipe window panes, I just want a functioning Start menu damn it!
I have the same problem, but haven't discovered a source of drivers that will run legacy printer/plotters. There is a wide open opportunity for some enterprising computer programming group. Windows XP was solid.
I have my old printers which will work fine and kept the installation discs.
I had a USB drive by Seagate. Two 500GB mirrored drives.
Then some disgruntled employee at Seagate pushed out some code which turned it into a brick. Lost everything on it.
Stating I have had absolutely no problem switching to Win 8 is one of the most arrogant posts in 15 years? Sure, whatever you say.
