Paul Singer: This threat is 'head-and-shoulders' above all others
CNBC ^ | 7/29/14 | Lawrence Delevingne

Posted on 07/29/2014 6:23:35 PM PDT by Kartographer

"(A natural EMP event) today would cause a massive disruption to the electric grid, possibly shutting it down entirely for months or longer, with unimaginable consequences," Singer wrote. "Only two years ago, the sun let loose with a Carrington-magnitude burst, but the position of the earth at the time prevented the burst from hitting it. The chances of additional events of such magnitude may be far greater than most people think." Carrington refers to a solar storm in 1859 that caused telegraph systems to fail around the world.

Singer warned that a man-made EMP attack would be even worse.

This call to protect the grid will in fact give the administration the power to control that grid.

Too many younger people would self emplode if there was an EMP. As it is, a few hours of power outage from a storm freaks them. Then the idea of going outside, oh no, the horror!

Whew, did you happen to see my rant about the nephews earlier in the month? Poor widdle things came for a summer vacation in the country but they were too afraid of the big scary outside to venture out. The preteens refused to learn to ride a bike because it involved the outside. No archery, RC cars, hiking, walking around the very safe neighborhood to see wildlife, going to the park, geocaching, visiting a cave, croquet, fisbee, fishing, grilling fajitas on the back porch, river tubing, putt-putt golf, or a hundred other things because they would have to go.... OUTSIDE!!!!!!!!!! They had to be begged to roast marshmallows. What kid doesn’t like to roast marshmallows? What kid doesn’t know how to ride a bike? What kid won’t go in garage to play with kittens because a garage is too close to fresh air and sunshine? After a few days of this bs and attitude, we ended their vacation and handed off to other unsuspecting relatives.

Thanks for the heads up, Kart.

Good article and coming from CNBC no less.

Maybe reality is slowly starting to sink in.

This call to protect the grid will in fact give the administration the power to control that grid.

In the same way the federal government uses any crisis or perceived crisis to gain more power and take away more of our freedoms.

That is how they used the scare of radical muslim terrorism to gain the power to form an even more pervasive police state.

Then they turned that power from fighting terrorism to persecuting citizens who don't fall in line with Hope N'Change.

"Lights Out!" by David Crawford is a good read.

But my favorite is One Second After, a 2009 fiction novel by American writer William R. Forstchen.

Perfect for your oblivious friends and family, because they won't be able to put it down, and it raises so many moral and ethical decisions, that they have to ask themselves over and over, "What would I do?"

Coworkers have told me they lost sleep thinking about dilemmas presented in the book.

Facebook was offline for an hour last Friday, and people were calling 911 to report the "emergency."
