Apparently, bears do a lot of things in the woods, including walking upright like a human.
A home video showing a black bear on its hind legs has been viewed on YouTube than 52,000 times.
The New Jersey black bear strolls across a street, peeks into a trash can and generally just ambles along in a Jefferson Township neighborhood.
A woman who answered the phone after hours at the Jefferson police department, but declined to giver her name, laughed when the Daily News called for comment.
Weve all seen it here in the office, she said of the video.
Asked if upright bears were out of the ordinary, she said it was very normal.
We all know there is an injured bear in town, she said.
Hurt bears often walk on their hind legs to compensate for their wounded paws, legs, whatever, she said.
Notice he drops on all fours as soon as he hits the treeline? Maybe he was walking like that as camouflage. From a distance, on a foggy morning, he’d look almost like a human out for a walk.
What happens when a bear hurts the hind paws? Off to the circus?
Great, a whole new season for that stupid finding bigfoot unreality show.
I wonder if he’s part sasquatch. This reminds me of the famous 1960’s bigfoot video.
Reminds me about an old Gary Larson cartoon about how cows act where there are no people around.
“Dammit BooBoo, where’s that pickin-ick basket?”
‘s walking like a human and is on his cell phone....call me!!
Notice how she stops at the trash can and checks it out before continuing.
Reminds me of someone taking a stroll around the rose garden.
Kind of scary, if real.
I love that one...
They usually stand up on their hind legs to get a better look at things - I had a huge Alaskan brown bear do that about 15 yards from me on Admiralty Island. He then woofed twice and popped his jaw once - as I released the safety on my .338 the wind shifted and he decided to leave. I went back to camp and changed my underwear.
That is rather common for bears. I suspect he kept his nose higher in order to better find his preferred scents....
Obama sees nothing wrong as he gets ready for his next tee time.
Clearly a fake. Guy in a costume. Bears walking on their hind legs don’t bend over to peer into trash cans, and his four-legged gait is more like a cat or a human imitating a bear. People will believe what they want to believe.

I grew up in the wooded mountains of NW NJ. Only once, when I was very young, was there a bear sighting when a black bear was spotted 8n the hayfield on the hill behind our property in the mid-1970s.
No bears since then, until sometime in the late 1990s... now they are everywhere... becoming a real nuisance... ripping down bird feeders, digging in the trash... getting hit by cars.
They brought back the bear hunt... pissing off a lot of nitwits.

Yup. At some point in the late 90s, sightings at my house became common. Now it’s almost daily.
Here’s just a couple recent bears I caught on my security cams.

No comparison. Short rear legs and a waddle vs. a purposeful stride. And the 'Squatch was definitely a she!
