A wealthy Indian businessman celebrating his 45th birthday made sure he looked the part - by having a shirt made of gold.
Pankaj Parakh, the owner of a multi-million pound textile business, spent £127,000 on the shirt which weighs almost four kilos.
A team of 20 craftsmen spent 3,200 hours creating the shirt out of 18-22 carat gold.
It has seven gold buttons but was created to have the same flexibility as a normal shirt.
Mr Parakh, who left school with no qualifications, said: Gold always fascinated me since I was five years old and studying in school. Over the years, I have become passionate about this royal metal."
He added: Yet, for my marriage 23 years ago, many guests considered me an embarrassment as I sported more gold than the bride.
Mr Parakh is hoping the unique garment will get him into the Guinness Book of World Records and the Limca Book of Records.
Last year Datta Phuge of Pimpri in India spent £160,000 on a gold shirt, but it weighed in less at 3.3kg.
First thing I noticed was the loose thread at the bottom of the shirt that needed to be clipped ... for that amount of money? details, details!
Happy birthday, but that’s the best they could do? For that money, I’d expect a less ugly design.

Woo hoo!! And the first 42% is in!! Thank you all very much!! |
One Sunday morning in the fall of 2001, I was driving through Gary, Ind. when my friend and I saw a crowd in front of a small church that included a man with a golden suit—gold pants, a golden jacket and a big Stetson hat. We figured he may have been the pastor or some local big shot. My friend insisted on taking a picture of him. So I parked the car across the street.
Since Gary, Ind. is not exactly Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., East Hampton, NY or Cleveland Park, DC, I kept the motor running while he stepped out and took the photo. When he got back in, we hightailed it out of there.
That’s Goldmember from one of the Austin Powers movies.
That is beyond absurd.
How was his calf?
But he can’t afford a dressing room.
Is it breathable or is he drowning in sweat?
That was my first thought, too.
My second thought was if he's a George Costanza type who takes his shirt off when he poops.
Pleats are out of style!
Lol...I have a feeling it’s gonna get lost at the cleaners.
Some of the Indian hyper-millionaires aren’t such nice people. A relative of my wife got stiffed out of his life savings by one. Others may be generous and altruistic, I don’t know.
