Airborne Transmission of Ebola
American Thinker ^ | August 24, 2014 | Ronald R. Cherry, MD

The public has been misinformed regarding human-to-human transmission of Ebola. Assurances that Ebola can be transmitted only through direct contact with bodily fluids need to be seriously scrutinized in the wake of the West Africa outbreak.

The Canadian Health Department states that airborne transmission of Ebola is strongly suspected and the CDC admits that Ebola can be transmitted in situations where there is no physical contact between people, i.e.: via direct airborne inhalation into the lungs or into the eyes, or via contact with airborne fomites which adhere to nearby surfaces. That helps explain why 81 doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers have died in West Africa to date. These courageous healthcare providers use careful CDC-level barrier precautions such as gowns, gloves, and head cover, but it appears they have inadequate respiratory and eye protection. Dr. Michael V. Callahan, an infectious disease specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital who has worked in Africa during Ebola outbreaks said that minimum CDC level precautions

“led to the infection of my nurses and physician co-workers who came in contact with body fluids.”

This keeps getting worse every time I check. If it spreads to Lagos, watch out world.

If this were a Hollywood virus contagion movie, they power that be would simply bring in fuel-air bombs (or small nukes) and incinerate the source of infection and all those in the quarantine zone.

The Democrats are pumping in immigrants everywhere they possibly can in an attempt to get political control, disease be damned. Let's get tuberculosis, Ebola and maybe a revival of Smallpox going. Now, if you really want to wipe out the pesky opposition, just start an epidemic of Smallpox. Worked for the Spaniards. By the way, ALL Mexicans are vaccinated for Smallpox to this day.

Saw the limb off on which you are sitting seems to be their best strategy anyway. If you can't have total control, then make sure no one else does either. I mean, can't we all be Detroit?

Another crime by the wishful thinkers in D. C. They knew about the airborne transmission of Ebola since monkeys caught it through the ventilation system in a research center in VA years ago.

I’m waiting for a jihadi to intentionally infect himself, then strap on a suicide vest and aerosolize himself in a crowded environment. To the world, it would look like a standard suicide bomb. But 3 or 4 weeks later, the survivors in the crowd will have symptoms. And over those 3 or 4 weeks, a much larger group will have been exposed.

What? The CDC is wrong? I wonder what else they might be wrong about?

I have some friends who are leaving next week on a photo “safari” in Kenya and Tanzania. Is that a good move? I worry for them. No one seems to want to talk about the ebola thing.

This is becoming more confusing, but mostly because of one word which is being used in two different ways.

“Airborne” has a specific, technical meaning when used to talk about preventing infections. It means a disease caused by tiny particles that are small enough to remain suspended in the air for hours and which remain infectious for most or all of that time. If Ebola was airborne, in that sense, we would know it already.

The common sense meaning of “airborne” is, you can get it through the air, by breathing or by contact. That is certainly true of Ebola, particularly when the source patient is splashing the walls with blood and diarrhea.

If the government wanted to deliberately infect the general population with economic chaos, illegal drugs, violent criminals, disease and the potential for armed insurrection would they behave differently?

If Ebola were airborne (strict sense) every passenger on Patrick Sawyer's flight to Lagos would be dead or dying. This does not appear to be the case.

But I agree that we are seeing unusual things. The transcutaneous ID90 must be quite low.

They discovered back in 1986 that had airborne tendencies

I wonder if the dopey Dr.s on Fox News will be spreading their misinformation again today on Fox News Sunday? The real fool Dr. Bernie Seigel (the New Yorker with the glasses) and the other guy (some foreign guy with his accent) keep downplaying the risk. I wonder how long they would wait before mentioning, oh by the way the ebola virus is now airbourne... run for your lives!!!!!!! I just want an admission of guilt, like Jerry from the dry cleaners that shrunk his shirt.

Don’t give Obama any ideas. He might want to do that with or without an Ebola outbreak.
