Controversial former baseball relief pitcher John Rocker will be playing along with his girlfriend, spray-tan business owner Julie McGee. Rocker pitched for the Atlanta Braves in the 1999 World Series against the Yankees. But later that year, Rocker became embroiled in controversy when he was asked in a Sports Illustrated article whether he would ever consider playing in New York and was quoted as saying, “I’d retire first. It’s the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the 7 train to the ballpark looking like you’re [riding through] Beirut next to some kid with purple hair next to some queer with AIDS right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It’s depressing… The biggest thing I don’t like about New York are the foreigners. You can walk an entire block in Times Square and not hear anybody speaking English. Asians and Koreans and Vietnamese and Indians and Russians and Spanish people and everything up there. How the hell did they get in this country?”

Your comment makes little sense. It’s as if you don’t realize that Yankee land is lousy with 13 year-old inbreeding welfare moms and that Mayberry and Dukes of Hazard are fictional shows.
I think Rocker’s comment was meant to point out that, up north, those are the majority rather than the exception.

Easy to understand...it’s because of all the northerners migrating to NC. You can’t swing a dead cat without hitting some NY or NJ asshat who tells us how wonderful it was up north...not having the intelligence to understand how such a statement sounds or the manners to know not say such things in somebody else’s home.

I started watching it years ago because a guy I knew from high school was on it. I got hooked. I love the editing, where they always get some chooch to talk about how he has the game wrapped around his finger right before he gets voted off. And I love the truly batsass crazy people they find. Rocker should be fun if he lasts.

Agreed. After 28 seasons, it still entertains.
With cameras everywhere and with the necessity of producing a compelling storyline, I don’t mind the staging at all. In literature, it’s known as the “willing suspension of disbelief.”
They screen for strong, charismatic, and annoying characters to keep the show from being boring, but no amount of staging can control each season’s new mix of personalities and abilities.
My favorite contestant is Bob the bow-tied science teacher. The most unlikely winner ever (until Cochran).

Reading your comment caused several comments to pop into mind.
1) I thought we were talking NY at large, not just Manhattan.
2) How did you obtain the super power to simply look at people and determine their age and breeding habits?
3) Did you use this same super power to “divine” this information about people who live in the “country”?
4) As far as Southerners are concerned, NY is a cesspool of rude arrogant asshats and a place fit only for holding a World Class Rat Roundup.

And yes, I do have superpowers that enable me to tell if the baby carriages I see are being pushed by little girls. All of the baby carriages I see around town are being pushed by obvious adults. And since I don't see 13 year olds pushing babies, I don't have to worry about whether the girl's brother is the baby's father. Interesting culture you have there, where that would be your assumption.

But Woody Allen was despicable for doing that
He lives in NYC. In a very wealthy area. But that is not the ‘inner city’. Those being the slums and crack houses of the city ‘projects’. That being almost free, welfare housing for those who are too lazy or stoned or criminal to want to get a decent job to better themselves. The more the gummint pays the worse these areas get.
My family got off the boat around 1900. They first lived in slums(no free projects then...you had to pay), my grandparents busted their rears and moved into nicer and nicer areas. Then in the early 60s we saw the cities reverting to bigger and bigger slums(thanks to welfare) and we moved OUT!
Still a few decent areas there, but I wouldn’t want to live in that close of a proximity to my neighbors. Some folks like the bright lights. I have been there and done that and am no longer interested

That’s plain wrong. My friends have been in NC for generations - they employed tenant farmers all the way back to the beginning of the century. When they threw a party it was delightful to see some of the older invitees begin to jig to fiddle music and we shared some White Lightning which put my lights out. Their kids, on the other hand, spent the entire night getting drunk and riding around crashing a golf cart and smoking pot on the front porch. All native born North Carolinians. My friends are wonderful people even if their kids are kind of weird.
