Tomatoes and peppers are still going strong. We are letting many of the bell pepper turn red, then dehydrating them or freezing them for stir fry. They are so expensive in the stores in the winter.
Hubby has all his taters dug up, and I only have a few patches left. We will be planting more of these next year. Still getting an occasional squash or cuke.
Lemons are coming along. One is almost totally yellow. When they are allowed to ripen on the tree, they are just a bit sweeter than the ones in the store, which are picked green, and ripened off the vine.
Have a great Holiday weekend. God Bless.
Hi greeneyes!
Even with rain everyday, the lawns are scorched.
Just another day in Paradise! LOL!
Pinging the list.
Greetings from hot ol’ Texas. And we are cooling down a bit, too..but still in the mid to high nineties most days.
Except for Romas, juliets, and cherry, my tomatoes are mostly just sitting there. Something ate my lettuce, and mecslun last night. I have volunteer swiss chard.
No sweet potatoes yet, Cucuzzi are doing pretty good, and I’ve planted zukes, Tromboncinos, and cukes. I have gotten one armenian cuke all summer.
Any others out there doing Boo?
Just lately I got hold of about 5 kinds of bamboo again...all for container planting...all hardy, running boo, except for for two varieties of tropical (clumping) buddha belly boo.

I have a lot of green cherry tomatoes. I’ve refrigerator pickled a couple jars, but there’s just me! What else can I do with them? I do have a nice dehydrator, but dehydrated green cherry tomatoes?
This is the summer that wasn’t here in NYS.
It’s been wet and I’ve had trouble with squash beetles taking out my zucchini and tomato blight about did in my tomatoes.
They both started out wonderfully well and so I got a decent crop, but not as good as I had hoped. Still, enough tomatoes to can up for sauce.
NW here. I’m getting lots of small tomatoes, picking Swiss chard, apples, plums just ripening, eating the last of the Arctic Kiwi.
This is the first year I’ve grown Acorn Squash. Have 5 large ones growing. I’m supposed to let the leaves die down (powdery mildew will take care of that), then cut the stem a couple of inches up and store. Any other hints, recipes?
Spent most of my time at Fisherman's Wharf. Toured the USS Pampanito, the SS Jeremiah O'Brien, and wandered around and gawked at . lol
I'm not much for spending time in the big city, but as they go this one is a nice place to visit. That said, I'll be very happy to get out of here tomorrow. Navy son Clint is coming up from San Diego and then we're off to Calistoga for some sprint car racing.
Our weather has has been just lovely for gardening in Benderville this year and I can’t think of one failure. Everything is one month ahead except the pumpkins and that is because I planted them late but there is time for them.
Green bean seed saving question: Normally I wait until the pods are crispy dry and then take the seeds for next year. This year we’ve had too much rain, so the pods won’t dry completely. I just snagged a bunch and recused the seeds as many of the pods are starting to mold. Some of the seeds are not quite as dry as I’d like. There might be a small dent if I bit them. Will they dry and be viable for next year?
Getting back to my garden in Kansas after 16 days of visiting my son and his family in Dallas. My daughter was going to water occasionally but I’m not expecting much after the recent heat wave.
Bumper crops of poblano and habenaro peppers. Still bumpkiss for bell peppers. Strange.
Still have zukes, a brief lull in cukes until final planting kicks in next week. 2nd planting of wax beans should kick soon as well.
Silver queen is almost ready. Passable later-season tomatoes after a feeble beginning (ain’t gonna buy that brand of fertilizer again, had to switch midsummer). Lots of butternuts and acorns. Greens out the wazoo. Looks like a passable fall beet crop, they germinated better than I initially thought, just thinned and weeded. A few white eggplant. Fall peas germinated great, we’ll see if I get a crop. Lots of tomatillos. Fall turnip crop is looking robust.
Hey everyone! I did not do diddly in my side of the garden this year. I was still recovering and not too sure what was safe to do, so I did nada. I did put in four tomato plants, and they did OK. About 2/3 of what I could have hoped for from each. My 8 cucumber plants gave me about one cucumber per on ave. :(. My pole beans were rather crappy too.
HOWEVER, my husband planted all of the heirloom pole beans I saved last year and those did very well. Pounds and pounds of beans are in the freezer. He will learn to can next year.
He also has lots of Kale, Peppers, Carrots, Turnips, a few Acorn Squash, and a large accidental Pumpkin just beginning to color.
What may interest some of you is that he planted some of those CRAZY hot peppers. The ones that are way off the charts. They came on nicely, as did his paprika peppers. He said that he will send anyone a pepper (of those crazy hot ones) who would like to try it out, or have it for seed saving.
Moruga Scorpions, Chocolate Seven Pot, Jonah Seven Pot, Datil. Limited number available, so let me know if you are interested in having one sent to you.
This am. I discovered my beautiful geranium plant was eaten....flowers and leaves....does anyone know what beast would do this overnight????
