Howdy Tumblindice. I just wanted to give you a heads up. I don’t think .45 is going stop most animals. If you’re doing your own loads and have a firearm that can take the extra pressure, then possibly. I’d just go with a .44 mag, or better yet, a 45-70.
I’d be curious though to hear if you’re loading and what kind of velocities you’re achieving and with which frame.
The "Ruger Only" loads for 45 Colt can be quite stout. I have some that I loaded up for a Blackhawk that are quite satisfying - 26 grains of H110 under a 250 grain JHP bullet. Plus, the recoil pulse isn't as snappy as a .44 Mag.
