I am saddened by the loss of a great pilot and a WWII fighter. In my opinion it is time to stop risking these priceless aircraft in racing. Purpose built race planes with race car engines could go just as fast while being safer.
It wasn’t a WWII fighter, it was a purpose built race plane.
I don’t understand your comment. From the story he was flying a single-engine experimental GP5 .
He was flying a GP-5 Osprey.
RIP, Lee Behel. See you on the other side.

Jeez I'm getting tired of you infiltrating liberals, carting along your fearful, trembling, collectivist, safety memes and your half-assed understanding of NLP. Everybody is just a little child, resources are too scare, make everything illegal, nanny state is the only solution to the problems of life, and above all - attack anything men do. Marching women into the collectivist glory of demasculinized males.
You're so foul inside I don't have the words to describe you. Crawl away somewhere, you spineless fear whisperer, covered with the slime of your own insidious cowardice and poison words. Gah, you're SO disgusting!
I totally understand and even sympathize (when the planes are WWII era, which as you know by now, the Sports class does not include those planes). On the other hand ... even with the super-modified vintage planes that fly ... the planes deserve to fly. Better that they go out flying than to sit and turn to dust. God bless everyone at the Reno Air Races this week and keep all safe.
