Golf ball thief
Fairbanks Daily News-Miner ^ | September 17, 2014 | Roger Evans

Posted on 09/17/2014 7:46:42 PM PDT by Jet Jaguar

Roger Evans of Fairbanks sent in this photo. He writes, "This fox has stolen an approach shot, and is waiting on the green for golfers to chip on so he can make off with another, which he did. He chose a pretty orange one next. This is the fourth ball thieving fox to steal hundreds of balls at North Star Golf Club on Old Steese Highway. He has the black legs of his most recent predecessor from a few years ago. What they do with them is anyone's guess, but we hope they don't think they are storing food for winter."

Now if we could just train ‘em to pick them up from the rough and drop them on the green.

In Barbados, street urchins sneak through fences to steal golf balls, then offer to sell them back to the golfers.

The driving range should hire this guy to retrieve balls.

A good story would be trained foxes that steals balls that are well hit or not well hit in friendly betting matches. The fox becomes a bit of a mascot, a cute gimmick, so no one starts spraying them with pepper spray or something before the drive into fox territory. Shifty club caddies versed in animal husbandry profit. Amateur youth detective busts the corrupt match fixing ring.

I wonder what the juice in liquid-filled golf balls tastes like, maybe good to foxes? Could they crack them? I had to use a vice and a hacksaw when I was around 7. Yes, the purple coloured juice squirted directly into my eyes.

“Titleist, the leading maker of liquid-filled balls, says it has always used a nontoxic solution of salt water and corn syrup.”

Hmmm...

This happened to me in Alabama. I hit a very nice shot for me on a par 5 but it rolled into a little dip in the fairway. When I got up there I could not find the ball. I eventually dropped and finished the par 5.

On the next hole, a par 3, I hit the ball to just by the fringe up front and out comes the local fox and takes that ball too. This fox had been around the course for a good while. I guess there were just so few people on the course that day that the fox was brave enough to go check out those “eggs” the humans we moving around the course.
