Atlas Shrugged - the movie
“The Giver” is another movie with the message that total equality is evil.
Was it entertaining? The trailers looked good.
Shrug.
I delayed watching Part I until Part II was also available on Netflix.
They changed most of the actors!!! Part II lost something with that. It may have worked had I not immediately watched Part II after watching Part I.
Movies do not make good series, because it is too long between installments.
Going to see it tomorrow.
The conflict between those at the Gulch and Dagny/Hank (before they go on strike) is similar to the fight between Tea Partiers and those that say we must coalesce behind the GOP-e (win the Senate at all costs).
Tea Partiers like me know that a GOP Senate led by McConnell will cave to the crony capitalists of the Chamber of Commerce. Tom Donahue is the Overlord of GOPe.
I found it very entertaining. There is no sex. There is a love story. Meryl Streep plays herself, a smug, self-satisfied, self-righteous control freak in the mold of Moochelle 0bola.
It has not done well at the box office, which is a shame. The message is that total equality robs people of their humanity. It ends with a real Christmas carol in the background.
Jeff Bridges bought the rights to the story 20 years ago, intending to cast his father in the title role. I have to give him a lot of respect for bringing a story like this to the screen.
I think this is one of those movies that could become a cult classic in years to come. It would be nice, anyway.
Like I said, its heart is definitely in the right place.
I liked parts one and two. I really wanted to like part three. It was really bad. It was so bad it was funny. It should be called Atlas shrugged part three, who is Ed Wood?
I saw Atlas Shrugged I and II and liked them. I will see III soon.
I agree. I wish they had not changed actors, and I wish they had shot all three parts one after the other and released them all in the same year.
I will still go see it.
Saw all three movies. The first was tolerable. The second was painful. The third was worse than a high school student’s film project. Plan 9 From Outer Space was Oscar caliber in comparison to this travesty of bad casting, horrible acting, and loops of cheesy stock video and music.
The intent behind them is irrelevant. They’re a disservice to the book. Frankly, wondered if the movies were an Alinsky method to discredit Rand. This trilogy was an abomination that should never seen the light of day.
Or don’t. Word is, it’s awful.

Thanks for posting this thread. I saw the trailer for this movie before seeing a really great movie, called “The Hundred Foot Journey”. I highly recommend that one, Helen Mirren is in it, along with many other actors I didn’t recognize. A very nice story with good acting, pretty French countryside was a bonus.

Alinsky! Never thought of it. Finally, an explanation for these abominations. After suffering these “tributes” to Atlas Shrugged, the question now becomes “Who WAS John Galt?”
Let me, in the strongest of terms, commend this movie to all FReepers, whether you are an Atlas Shrugged fan or not. The actors are good; the dialogue is good; the scenery is good; and the storyline is good.
AS III will probably not win any Academy Awards, but it is well worth your time and attention. It is also well worth the price of admission and a large box of popcorn!
The movie is a perfect statement of our conservative principles! It neatly and concisely exposes the Socialist/Marxist/Fascist lie for all to see and understand! And, it presents a solution that you will appreciate.
“Mainstream media critics” will not like this movie!
Every American ought to go see the movie if they want to gain a better understanding of where the USA is heading socially, politically and economically under our Democan/Republicrat “leaders.”
UNLESS WE DO SOMETHING!
Please go see the movie — you will not regret it.
By the way, go see it even if you have not seen Atlas Shrugged I & II; the early scenes of the movie bring the viewer up to speed as to what has happened to this point neatly and concisely.

Which of the three different casts? And if you’re referring to ASIII, explain the hippie John Galt, a Francisco who is 3 times Dagney’s age, a Ragnar who looked like some clown on parole after doing time for robbing a convenience store, and a Wyatt who had the worst cowboy twang since Travolta.

Quotes from the book were good. Dialogue was nonexistent. Actor A delivers mini speech to Actor B. Actor B reciprocates.

Yes, stock photos of Detroit and a sinking cargo ship. Stock video of mountains looped endlessly. The same scene over and over again of Dagney looking through a muddy vehicle windshield. And don’t forget the giant sequoias that magically transplanted from California.

Only to the extent it followed the book. Portraying John Galt as a symbolically crucified Jesus? Guess I missed that particular nuance in the book.
There are two types of people shilling for this bastardization of Rand’s masterpiece: (1) those ignoring how awful it truly is in order to promote the message (which the movie undermines); and (2) those with a tie to the movie itself but hiding the connection.
