British photographer Max Ellis (whom we wrote about previously here) is a pro at capturing brilliantly staged shots of wild squirrels. When he noticed that the suspended Jack O Lantern in his backyard was attracting the attention of a squirrel, he got to work snapping these delightful photos.
Ellis gets the squirrels to post for photos like these by leaving them treats in places that will force them to interact with his props. In his previous interview with Bored Panda, he stressed that the squirrels were never harmed in his photos and that they were probably much better fed than any other wild squirrels on the planet!
That’s wonderful! Thanks for posting. The rest of the news today is so depressing!
I like this one too.
great photo!
Awww! Some people think they are pests, but I feed them too, along with the birds.
“but I feed them too,”
I did too. I had one little guy who would come to my home office window to get my attention. He would take red shell peanuts from my hand. Then he was killed crossing the street to my house. I buried him in my back yard, with many tears! I don’t feed them any more.
pretty cool.
I feed mine too. I have about nine. Five of them have been AWOL. Could be coyotes or a hawk or one meanass feral cat we have been unable to capture. But my Alpha squirrel “Cookie” shows up three times a day. She is relentless. Will hang on the window screens if I don’t put out her food in the same place. My husband says she’d come in the door if I left it open and grab me by the collar and bully me about the food. She isn’t particular. She likes dried corn, bird seed, cheerios, buttermilk biscuits but has an affinity for cookies and chocolate nuts. She may have murdered the others for their food. I wouldn’t doubt it knowing her. She is a mess. She even bullies and torments our songbirds too. Our mockingbird is the only one that will stand up to her.
Thank you, Thank you.

Thank you. That photo made my day.
The photos are very cool! Thanks!
I loved the video so much, I sent it to my Mom and siblings. I wasn’t sure how real it all was until I saw the squirrel in live action. He did a good job!
That’s great. :)
Oh, my. I’m so sorry you lost him. He was practically your pet. I would have buried him also. I’m very much a critter lover.
I haven’t counted the ones around here, but there are plenty of them. There used to be a pure white one that would come around. I wanted so badly for him to come closer to my yard, but he never would. He has been gone for several months now, and I’m sorry I never got a good close look at him.
We had an albino and a pure black one for awhile. It was fun when they were both around. But standouts like those usually don’t last long in the wild. Too conspicuous of a target for the Cooper’s Hawk we also have.
Didn’t want to leave him for the buzzards. He was so smart! He’d come to my open office window, and chatter at me. Then he’d take the redskin peanuts right from my fingers. He had no fear of me! They’re smart little critters! Tear up just thinking about him! He was a friend of mine!
Before I retired a few years ago, I worked in an area where there were trees and therefore squirrels. I started taking peanuts to work to feed them and, before long, I literally had a few of them taking the nuts right out of my hand. A lot of the women in the office were captivated by the cuteness of this and they started joining in. Soon a lot of folks were bringing goodies in for the squirrels and taking part in hand-feeding them. But SOMEBODY complained about it and I got orders from the boss to stop. As usual, there is a party pooper in every group.
