Mom confronts stranger who suggests she should have aborted her son

Sometimes I forget, because Gabe is just that — Gabe. When I look at him I don’t see Down syndrome, I see my son, Abi’s brother — a sweet, willful, determined little boy.

Sometimes I forget, and that makes it even harder when someone reminds me in a not so kind way.

Like the cashier who gave me sad eyes and spit poison in a whisper, “I bet you wish you had known before he came out. You know they have a test for that now…”

Shock, horror, hurt and fury coursed through my body. I considered jerking her over the register and beating her senseless. I looked her up and down; I could take her.

Instead I used wit. I smiled a crazy lady smile. “I know right?! It’s so much harder to get rid of them once they come out. Believe me I’ve tried…” Jackpot! Her mouth dropped open, and she stared at me in shock.

I leaned over the register and whispered to her, “What you’re saying is that it’s OK for me to kill him while he’s inside but not outside? In my book there isn’t a difference. For the record, we knew everything about him during my pregnancy. He’s our son now, and he was our son then. There is no way in hell that I would let any harm come to either of my children, including during the time that they’re so ridiculously considered disposable.” -

And people get upset here when I use the term ‘human garbage’. What other term fits? A person like that is human garbage. They are the ones needing to be thrown away. Not the Downs kid.

I just say the child (or adult) has Trisomy 21 and the person who made those comments are retarded.

I see your point however.

They are the ones needing to be thrown away.

They are the ones whose voting privileges should be null and void until they are educated in the facts of life.

This country has turned into an absolutely mongrelized pathetic excuse for civilization. Man, I miss the 50s.

What these ‘people’ and I use that in only the biological sense, don’t realize is that we are already at the point where ‘old’ people are being urged to ‘die with dignity’. And people with other diseases are being urged to ‘die with dignity’. Soon, they will have a relative or perhaps they themselves will be urged to ‘die with dignity’ because we have already allowed liberals do define the value of life down so far that in 2014 it has very little value to someone in power somewhere in America already.

TLDR: They will be next in line and they are too stupid to know it.

We need to return to shunning. The author should have walked in to the managers office and explained that either the store fired the idiot or she would be at the local newspaper/TV station with the story.

If they wish so deeply to marginalize the least of us, we should ensure their unemployability and homelessness in our own towns. Hardball.

I know people like the referenced cashier exist but I just can’t hardly believe it when I hear these stories. Not that I don’t believe the story, I am just still shocked that people say these types of things to a mother!

At least have the decency to say it behind their back if nothing else!

Man, I miss the 50s.

Me too.

A Republican president. Before the pill. Before Roe v Wade.

Life was given the benefit of the doubt.

It was a respite before all hell was let loose.

We were ok until the country was forced through that meat-grinder commonly referred to as the 60s.
What came out the other side was an unrecognizable America.

Awesome. Some people need to be put in their place.

The 60s prepared us for the 80s when we got Ronald Reagan and the fall of communism. And Reagan prepared us for what we are going through right now.

There is God's hand in all this.

I’m not kidding when I say that I have a special, intense sort of rage that bubbles up when I read things like this. I would’ve taken her right then and there.

If those of us with any sense of right and wrong at all simply stopped associating with/hiring/renting to ect the idiots, they would have to go elsewhere. There is always someone better to hire, rent from you, whatever. We simply cut our own throats accepting them in any capacity.

Let them all develop their own towns or ‘communities’ of their type. Then refuse to do business with them.

I agree. As the Father of severely handicapped daughter, I endured this type comment a few times. I was never quick enough for that comeback, though.
I would usually just glare and walk away, afraid that if I opened my mouth, my fists would follow...
I do remember one man who looked at my daughter in her wheelchair and said, “Well, what’s wrong with her?”
My daughter looked up at me with a “What do we say to that?”, look on her face.
I smiled at her and said, “It’s okay, Sweetheart. He’s handicapped and can’t help it.” She smiled at me and we went on our way.
My daughter had Rett Syndrome and could not speak, but understood EVERYTHING. She had one of the sharpest minds and quickest wits I’ve ever seen.
She probably had 4 or 5 comebacks better than mine...

Satan was always around, but he did his most sucessful recruiting in America in the 60s, using drugs, sexual license, and a spirit of rebellion to seduce those who foolishly thought they would benefit from their own moral destruction. How terrible this was for their families and for this country. Their own children have been been deprived of wonder and an assurance that God loves them. There is nothing finer to give children, because this gift lasts through eternity.

Amazing how quickly civilization is becoming uncivilized these days. Though I do believe most of these stories are total lies.

Well most of what you said is true. But if it’s some feral amish kid that gets what he was looking for. By that I mean a bullet. Then the libs are outraged. I hate those people. No loathe, I loathe them.

I can top that. I lived next door to a special ed teacher who was surprised with a Down’s syndrome daughter the tests all failed to diagnose. This woman, who pretends to care for developmentally disabled children, didn’t want one of her own and was furious with the medical community for denying her the opportunity to abort.
