When are they going to allow us to save data on an external device? Staples sold me device that the salesman claimed would allow me transfer data from our iPad and iPhone to a jump drive. When I tried to use it, I got an error message that the device required more battery power than either the iPhone or iPad could provide.

Sounds to me as if that is a problem with the third party device. I've seen jump drives connected through the keyboards on Macs that tried to draw more power than a standard USB port is designed to supply.

Apple has iCloud and Sharing and the ability to link to your home or home computer for data. Apple's viewpoint on this is that any plug in device that can access the storage on an iPhone is a security leak.

On the iPad mini, I have had cut/paste problems from safari. Seems like nothing I copy makes it to my email - so I can’t send links and stuff like that...not a great problem, but a pain. Hope it gets fixed soon...

Odd problem. I have not seen such a problem. Have you done a complete cold restart on your iPad mini? That solved many problems after installing iOS 8.

Hopefully this will fix the noise problem on Apple TV which I think is because of the way it interfaces with the TV and it gets out of sync and gets really noisy. On the forums, it’s the TV that needs the update but I’ll try it tonight.

Which TV are you using with your AppleTV? We have two Panasonic flat screens and one LG flatscreen with three AppleTVs, two of them 3D TVs, from five to one year old. None of them exhibit that problem. I believe we've had one time where the sound got out of sync with the video by about five seconds, but forcing a restart of the AppleTV fixed that problem. . . but that was one update ago. We haven't had an issue since. I haven't had a chance to update the AppleTV's to 7.0.2 yet.

iPhones and iPads don’t have keyboards, or USB ports.

I’m just talking about saving data to a jump drive, or some other external storage device. The cloud is not always the ideal solution.

My brand new ipad air keeps freezing. Even with something as small as typing on the keyboard. I was going through the apple forums and apparently there is a hardware issue with some of them. I’ll try updating before I take it in to be switched out.

The only freezing I had typing was on FreeRepublic when backspacing more than twice quickly. No place else. It was strange. But If I backspaced at one time more than three times at once on an iPad while editing a reply or a post, the screen would freeze. Occasionally, it would free itself after waiting maybe two or three minutes. . . but most times it would require completely quitting Safari. Again, very occasionally, my editing session at FreeRepublic would would return with my work still there, but most times I would have to start over from scratch, on restarting Safari. I have NOT tested the updated iOS8.1.1 for that problem yet.

I think I have restarted it, but I will do it again...and get the update.

Really odd behavior, hard to believe actually. I love the mini, use it daily. But this simple ‘copy’ thing is annoying.

I thought the recommendation / solution for the ios 8 upgrades was to do them thru itunes on the Mac. (because they are big downloads).

I don't know about the update for iOS8.1.1 on a 4s, but it's only 64Megabytes on an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air. That's itty-bitty. It took only a few minutes to download. But it's possible Yehuda may have less than that free.

It is odd behavior. . . and very annoying. You may wind up exchanging it under warranty.

It has to be a COLD restart. Hold down the power button and the home button for twenty seconds to clear all memory locations. You won't lose anything, but it has to clear anything that is causing the problem in RAM. Then do a normal start up with the power button. You will have to put in your pass code after a cold start. I hope this helps.

I wound up having to do it via my Windows 8.1 PC. A half-hour remains on the download. Then I can run the install. I haven’t had the money for a Mac yet.

The IOS 8.1.1 update for the iPhone 4s was 919 MB. The update for my iPhone 5 was 141 MB.

That explains a lot! No wonder! They've basically rewritten the 4s version completely.

Did a restart. Copy/pasted a url from the browser, worked. Then highlighted some text from the browser, pasted into email, and got an old value pasted...not even the url I had just copy/pasted, but an email address I looked up and used 2 weeks ago...

Like I said, really odd...I have successfully cut/pasted since then, but this old value keeps creeping back in...

I will keep trying a few other things...and let you know when I get it...

Well this update didn’t fix any of my safari problems. Still gets slower the longer I use it until I eventually get fed up and restart it. Also the on-screen keyboard sometimes doesn’t show up when I click in a form field. In fact, that happened when I tried to post this message and I had to restart safari to post.

I’ve been using Yosemite since it came out. It’s been great.

I had the opposite Firefox/Safari experience. Firefox was crashing. Safari is pretty stable for me. I often have over 100 tabs open, maybe over 200.

If an app (usually a browser) isn’t responding, I look at the memory pressure in the Activity Monitor app. Yosemite is designed to minimize response time and one of the ways it does this is by keeping things you’ve recently used or that it thinks you might use next in memory. Sometimes it guesses wrong. Then it has to scramble to free up space. I tend to have a lot of heavy duty stuff open at once and except for Xcode, it’s been good.

Xcode has been very squirrelly and lots of it subparts have been freezing/crashing on me.

Mine still freezes. Can’t do anything. Have to do a hard boot. I just bought this one in September so will be returning it.
I’ve had an iPad since they came out and never had a problem. My 7 yr old grandson is still using the original iPad.

I got an Ipod three months ago. Bad idea. But I had a $200 free Best Buy card to use and they quit selling the Samsung MP3 players.

It’s updated three times since then. Everytime it updates I have to re-tweak my preferences.

Did you back-up your iPod? If so, there's an option to back up your preferences and then restore them. My iPod is an iPhone and have never had a problem with any of that in the iPod section, so I think something is wrong on how you are doing the updating. I have pinged Martin_Fierro who keeps the iPod ping list and he may have some advice for you on this.

Didn’t know there was a backup. It’s not a big thing, just annoying.

Thanks Sword. The iPod Ping list has been moribund over these past few years. < |:(~

But I agree -- backing up your settings via iTunes is probably your best best.

Plus there are Apple forums where you can post your question and usually get a helpful answer:
