We’re dropping cable and phone this Christmas. I plan getting a Roku.
You got that right. Seems like long ago, there was maybe a single 60-second or two 30-second commercials followed by 7 or 8 minutes of content. Now it's a bunch of 15-second commercials totaling 2 or 3 minutes followed by 3 or 4 minutes of content. It creates nausea. The joy of Netflix is 100 percent content!
True but I think you will have many new channels come up fast.
I see a lot of the older channels that is thrown in with the cable subscription vanishing.
15 years ago I tried to get to Blockbusters before all the good movies were gone.
Before getting that Roku, look into alternatives. I have a Roku, as well as Apple TV and Sony Blu-Ray pucks. The Roku had few offerings and bad control, as well as bad video. Apple TV has far more offerings and better control features and options. The Sony Blu-Ray device also is far better than Roku, offering more content as well as great streaming features (for Android devices). I rarely use the Roku anymore.
Roku’s are great.
The only catch is to make sure you have the fastest Internet speed as possible.
That way you can watch Movies/TV/etc... and still surf the web without any drops.

I don’t see any of them vanishing. SyFy has shown you can keep a cable network going averaging about 900,000 viewers.
I do see a pattern. There are some that engage in wishful thinking and want to believe the movement away from network TV is driven by rejection of liberal idealogy. I don’t think has much to do with it. People hate commercials and will gladly pay $8 a month to avoid them. As more and more people leave cable to Netflix the network producers have to increase the percentage of the cable hour allocated to commercials. Downward spiral. Cable is almost unwatchable because of all the commercials. Then there is people’s rejection of the crappy content but that has little to do with political idealogy.
That’s all that is in my home is netflix. Gave up on cable years back and satellite about three years or so ago. Too damn expensive and even with DVR’s the content just wasn’t there. I am certain ala cart will come along, then I will consider re-joining. For the time being, I am not going to pay to subsidize crappy channels I never wanted in the first place that are niche at best. No thanks.

Maybe... I also like the convenience of being able to simply turn on the TV and browsing through the program listings... and so does my wife.
While I'm pretty tech savvy, I still don't like watching TV on the computer (especially since I have a few nice big TV's), and going through the gyrations to send stuff from a tablet or my PC to a big TV is a bit of a pain (and virtually impossible for my wife to manage).
I do have a smart TV in one room, and a DVD player in the other room with smart TV capabilities, and I've fiddled with Hulu and NetFlix on those (my daughter's accounts), as well as Crackle... but they're tedious when trying to search for something.
Thank you. My TV is 32 inches. Not huge but sometimes it might be better to watch than the tablet.

Cable and satellite will be dead.
Broadcast channels are already dead to me. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, etc satisfies my entertain needs.
May I ask please, what do you use for your ISP?
I’m waiting for TCM to offer subscription service. Then, I will seriously consider pulling the plug on cable.
I’m a little behind on the technology. Would you mind please explaining what do these devices do? Like the Amazon TV stick? I’ve seen it on Amazon available for pre-ordering.
