Broadvcast TV is dead to me.

My bundle runs about the same. I am interested in options but many of the shows my wife watches are not available except thru cable.
Some of shows listed are cringe inducing. Sullivan & Son was one that was set in a bar that had a cast of quirky characters but what did they do? Instead of good writing they swore using words other then the heck and darn used already too much on regular tv. They had a mother and her son. The mother who was known as a tramp who slept with most everybody in the bar and they implied they were way too close.
The other shows end up trying to be raunchy, trying to see what they can get away with. It just turns off the viewers.
Seems like every show on TV wants to be “edgy” and “push the envelope”.... but they should know that “DeGrassi” a supposed kids show on Nick was doing all of that before them. It is pure left-wing indoctrination with kids sleeping around, getting abortions and all that.
I'm not saying it's a wholesale rejection of liberal ideology, but clearly a significant portion of those who watch TV have specifically migrated away from the Norman Lear types who spew their agenda.
I believe the migration went from the broadcast networks, including the nightly news to cable. With cable you can kind of choose your philosophical perspective, at least more so than the monolithic broadcast network.
Now, however, even cable is drowning in ads with literally dozens of channels seemingly running nothing but infomercials! Who buys these crappy kitchen gadgets and vacuums anyways??
So yes, I do think ideology has played a big part of this migration, but so too, as you point out, is the utter relentlessness of TV commercials, kind of like what happened, in part, with FM radio.

Yeah, sure. In 1985 a co-worker declared to me that in 5 years the mainframe computer and the COBOL programming language would be dead and gone. In 1994 when I sat down to begin my first civilian job after military retirement, I began working on a 3270 monitor/IBM 360 mainframe and began to work in COBOL and mainframe assembly language. The PC was also supposed to be gone by now and recently laptops were pronounced as well. Just like the environmental twits who predicted dire breakdown of civilization in the 60s, 70s and 80s, they are rarely correct or close.
Netflix is much more than movies. Their other content has far outpaced their movie selections.
True, but studios and production facilities are not obligated to continue with Netflix. They may create their own “apps”, pay tv manufacturers to insert them into new sets, and stream their own content.
Or, networks may pay the production facilities for that privilege.
We have a computer hooked up to our TV. Wireless keyboard, mouse. It is pretty sweet.
But, we primarily use an Xbox to stream Netflix, Amazon Prime.

these devices provide an interface for all of these different streaming companies. you buy the “stick,” plug it into your tv, and access these streaming services. You will have an account with Netflix/Amazon, for instance, and sign into that account and access the content they provide to you for your account.
There are many free programs also - news and such. Kind of like a “store” for all of the apps smart phones use.
Looks like the Firestick is way more powerful and has better features. Thanks.

Does the TV have to have its own WiFi adapter or does the stick provide that? My LCD flat screen is a little older and does not have Wifi, but it has a USB port.
the adapter has the wifi connection. the fire stick connects via hdmi - check that. not sure on chromecast.

DSL from our local telephone co.
Unless the cable monopolies on broad band internet service are eliminated, cable will continue.
You can get tv over satellite but not broadband internet.
DSL is not available everywhere.
Wireless lacks capacity
My BIL has sat internet (WildBlue).
It’s pricey.
