Marijuana figures big in Ferguson meltdown

CNN's Don Lemon is under fire for making the elementary observation that some of the Ferguson protesters planning violence and mayhem were smoking pot. Linking dope to violence is taboo for most of the media.

Reporting from the scene, Lemon said, "Maybe a minute, two minutes ago we heard a gunshot and watched people scattering. And we're watching people on the roofs of cars, on the tops of cars and....Obviously there's a smell of marijuana here as well."

Have you ever been high ?

I have, and have known many others who have.

Were you out of control and maniacal ?

Did you want to commit crime and mayhem ?

Never - for me or those others.

The idea that pot causes violence - rather than simply being used by violent people - is beyond laughable.

Nothing to see here, we have been assured by internet experts that marijuana is completely harmless, not associated with crime and is in fact a natural medicine without harmful side effects.

I've never seen that claim on the internet. Have a link?

Drug use helps explain the violent conduct of Brown, as well as some of the protesters.

...

Yep. The Gentle Giant was loaded on dope, and he was out stealing cigars to use as blunts.

It’s not as if dope smokers don’t also drink a lot.

Cliff Kincaid has it backwards. They are upset because it will make Ferguson rioters look bad, not make pot look bad.

Cliff Kincaid has a long history of saying stupid things about pot.

Reference posts made right here at Free Republic, get tired of those, try Google.

I’m not going to play fetch for you, but if you are truly curious, try the search phrase “marijuana cures” or “marijuana nature’s”. It’s a fun game, you can probably think of better search phrases if you try.

Pot was Charles Manson’s favorite drug. But it didn’t lead to lawlessness or anything like that.

Funniest post of the thread, but you forgot the sarcasm tag.

You're right. They've managed to push it all the way to legislatable and call it the "War on Drugs".

At this point, whatever it's called, I'd rather we "just say 'no'".

By which you mean you're not going to support your claim; that your claim stands as unsupported hot air is duly noted.

You my friend, are just playing games.

I’ll humor you, this is the second listing on a random google search,

http://www.tokeofthetown.com/2011/08/worth_repeating_medical_cannabis_is_the_best_kept.php

I didn’t bother reading it, you don’t need to either, there are thousands more if you are curious enough to look.

By the way, the first hit was an LA Times article titled “Puffing is the Best Medicine. And a few hits down is

http://www.askmen.com/sports/health/20b_mens_health.html which goes over the health benefits and denies health risks.

I really don’t like playing fetch but I had about 2 minutes to spare.

I didn’t bother reading it,

You should have - it doesn't support your claim that "we have been assured by internet experts that marijuana is completely harmless, not associated with crime and is in fact a natural medicine without harmful side effects." The only mention it makes of harm or its lack is that pot "has never caused a single death from its use" - which in the sense of fatal overdose is correct.

By the way, the first hit was an LA Times article titled “Puffing is the Best Medicine.

To acknowledge the well established medicinal benefits of pot is not to deny harm - many useful medicines have harmful side effects.

http://www.askmen.com/sports/health/20b_mens_health.html which goes over the health benefits and denies health risks.

Exactly the opposite is true - it says "the smoke from burning marijuana shares an array of dangerous and potentially carcinogenic chemicals with cigarette smoke."

That's three strikes for you so far - but take as many swings as you like.

there are more than enough REAL science studies that have demonstrated pot users have heighted paranoia and mood swings.

This is the same anarchist and 99% crowd. Illegal drug use and low mental iq goes along with them.

No kidding...

Highest pot THC level on record is 20 something%

Most today of good quality is mid teens

Its funny to watch Freepers who’ve never been stoned in their life say with absolutism that it makes folks violent and any other pejorative they can envision

I smoked pot for 15 years like Snoop Dogg.

Anybody want to know how it makes you feel just ask...I ain’t bashful

I’ve done most of my bad deeds sober or dranking
