Sex offender grabs at cop's gun in struggle to avoid shoplifting arrest, police allege

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A registered sex offender bashed a police officer's face with a credit card reader and grabbed at another officer's gun as he tried to escape a shoplifting arrest, police allege.
The violent episode unfolded at the Kohl's store at 2239 Forest Ave. in Mariners Harbor just before 8 p.m. Friday, after security guards spotted Tyreek Wilson, 20, trying to steal clothing, according to police.
Wilson, of Wayne Street in West Brighton, was sentenced to 10 years' probation after being convicted of second-degree attempted rape in November 2012. His victim was a 13-year-old girl, according to state sex offender records.

Doesn’t probation normally go with a suspended sentence, so that if you violate probation you have to do those years? Without that, what is the meaning of “probation”?

yes, probation is being sentenced to 10 years in prison and then told to behave yourself on the streets, report monthly to a probation officer,and not be put behind bars. The only good thing about it is that is you violate probation anytime during that 10 years, you can serve the entire ten.
That having been said, attempting to rape a 13 year old girl should put your worthless ass behind bars immediately for the entire 10 years...
