Weekend Box Office Collapses to 16 Year Low
Brietbart ^ | December 8, 2014 | John Nolte

Despite the best efforts of Jennifer Lawrence, two big family films, some horrible bosses, and The Mighty Christopher Nolan, according to Deadline, the weekend's box office collapsed to a 16-year-low.

Box Office Mojo reports the weekend earned just $70.4 million, which Deadline says is the worst post-Thanksgiving weekend, going all the way back to 1998. Mojo adds that this weekend was the second-worst of the year and somewhere around a 20% drop over this same weekend last year.

Make better movies, and maybe things would turn around.

Last night went to see Pyramid which we walked out after 15 minutes of the worst B film ever in a theater only to end up with John Carey’s latest Dumb and Dumber - I can’t even watch John Carey anymore as he is just too old to play in these movies....

I’m astounded there is any business for theaters at all these days. In the old days, the “big screen” was impressive.
Now it’s sitting in the corner of my living room.

That graphic on the left is pretty idiotic.

$70 for a family of four with ssnacks and drinks. In this economy it’s no wonder.

Not going to the movies until Dec 17. Then, probably two in one day: Hobbit pt 3 and Night at the Museum 3. May pop for the IMAX 3D Hobbit.

There wasn’t a new movie out at all. Such a dumb story. Wait until December 25th. That day is going to explode with the new Angelina Director Movie.....Good God I can’t wait for that movie. So sick you bashing Hollywood especially about such a dumb weekend that had no movies. The worst movie of the year was conservative “Skipping Christmas”.....now that is an FU Kurt Cameron on the dumbest movie ever.....well except for American Carol which sucked badly.

Just think what you miss by staying home...

Sticky floors, seats with who-knows-what on them, kids kicking the back of your seat, cell phone yappers, and overpriced snacks.

Well his name is Jim Carrey.....you probably went into the wrong movie. How you can screw up a name is beyond me.

LOL good point! But we have a stand alone 8-plex theater about 3 miles from our home and I’m always amazed how many cars are in the lot on Fri and Sat night.

It’s the single lowest rated film on IMDB...

I’m afraid to see what they did to Exodus.

Bale’s opening his yap about how Moses was one of the most brutal people in history.

If that’s the story they are telling, I’m not sure I want to hear it. That guy is possessed.

I’ve pretty much given up on going to the movies.

I have better pictures and much, much better sounds at home.

Plus, I can pause to slip out and take a bodacious Obama, and reload with whatever shacks I wish.

Nothing opened wide this weekend, that’s gonna hold things down a bit. Exodus starts this weekend, then Hobbit, and Into the Woods. There’s still some fat cash they’ll be making.

I still enjoy the theatre. Nobody is asking me to fix them a snack. I never see a movie unless I’ve seen the trailer.

I refuse, however, to waste money on a lot of the trash that is out there. I saw a good movie this past weekend, “The Good Lie”. However, the “trailer” lied about what it was going to be. It was NOT a light hearted comedy, as portrayed in the trailer. It was a sobering look at the Sudenese War for at least 1/2 the movie. There were a few lighthearted moments after the “boy” got to America, but that wasn’t the main point of the film.

I didn't care for Interstellar. Too loud, and altogether incoherent. Nolan's worst film.

Guardians of the Galaxy was the best movie I've seen this year. Saw it twice. It was the first film since original Star Wars that felt like Star Wars. Tons of fun.

Runner up was Tom Cruise's sci-fi outing Edge of Tomorrow. Awesome film.

Lucas was right in that film is becoming a niche market. All of the actors and directors are moving to TV for the quality stories, more dependable work, and the chance to build characters over many episodes and season. They're fine to leave film as the arena for small, independent films or big budget comic book stuff.

TV is where it's at.

We manage with 6 in our family. I think it is a poor excuse. I know it will cost close to 100 dollars to go to the movie but big deal. Cheapest entertainment possible. Try going to Disney World on that....won’t even get you parking practically. We went to Disney a month ago and easily spent ten grand. Disney is not cheap, going to the movies is cheap. The only cheap vacation is a cruise. We went to Mexico this past fall and it literally cost less that 6 grand for six people....now that is cheap for a week.
