I am a Southerner who is deeply offended by Michael Tomasky's slander, libel, and defamation of my character. I want to sue him for it. I need some advice on who to contact to represent me. It may be the only way to shut his mouth. Can any Freeper help me with legal advice? No I am not joking, I am serious. I have had enough.
Perhaps you could find a lawyer willing to file a class action lawsuit? Then you could get numerous others to sign on as well?
I’m in Texas and I’d much rather just punch him in the mouth.

Read an article recently. Apparently if you libel a large enough number of people, none of them are considered individually damaged enough to sue. That number is probably somewhere between 50 and 100.
I think there are more southerners than that.

I think his remarks have done more harm to him than to any person of the south. Of course there is no law against looking foolish and rude.
You should report the jerkward to the supposed “Southern Povery Law Center” as they are SUPPOSED to represent Both poor people and Southern people.....
Then when the SPLC refuses to take your case you could sue the SPLC for discrimination....
Wish you could, but it won’t go anywhere. He wrote an opinion piece, and the First Amendment clearly protects him, not to mention freedom of the press.
Also, libel, would be the correct term, as it is the written word. Slander pertains to verbal defamation.
On the other hand, in my opinion, if you wanted to tar and feather him, I’m sure you would only get a few hundred thousand folks to join you.

Was that the Eugene Volokh article about libel and UVA? I read that too and you are right. I think his example was if someone says “all lawyers are thieves” no lawyer is defamed. But if someone says “all the lawyers at XYZ firm are thieves” then you might have a case.
Suing is so wimpy. A good ass-kicking will do.
No offense friend but don’t waste your time. You’ll only give more attention to this loser. Take satisfaction in knowing this clown Michael Tomasky has to resort to name calling and insults because he can’t debate you on the issues straight up.
