CICERO, N.Y. -- The Onondaga County sheriff's deputy who ran a red light and crashed head-on into a car this weekend in Cicero likely will not be ticketed, Detective Jon Seeber said, speaking for the sheriff's office.
Deputy Michael Ciciriello was on patrol, driving a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria east on Guy Young Road about 6:55 p.m. Saturday when he ran the red light and struck a 2012 Toyota Prius heading south on Brewerton Road, Seeber said. Ciciriello and the driver of the car, 59-year-old David Lekki, of Baldwinsville, were treated at local hospitals for minor injuries and released. Both cars were badly damaged.
"Clearly he was at fault," Seeber said of the deputy.
But he also said Ciciriello, 44, will likely not be ticketed, nor will he face work sanctions. The sheriff's office is self-insured, Seeber said.
"Even though he was not enroute to an emergency, he was still out there patrolling the area," Seeber said. "It was an accident."
I'm fairly confident that the sheriffs department issues dozens if not hundreds of tickets per day to civilians who did something "by accident."
There really are to America's now: one for the government employees and one for the rest of us.
Upstate bump
“Clearly at fault” pretty well clears the air about compensation.
I just don’t like cops. There were 5 sheriff’s deputies in my little neighborhood today writing up speeders. The speed limit is 30 and I’ve never seen one going more than what I suspected to be 40. Just in time for Christmas.
Guess it’s still better than the Milwaukee County Deputy who ran a red light, seriously injured a woman, then tried to frame her for drunk driving. As far as I know, nothing has happened to him apart from a 9-day suspension.

My dad was a cop. My grandfather was a cop. My gut reaction is always to take a cop’s side. But when my grandfather and my dad were cops the police were more like Joe Friday and Andy Griffith than Bad lieut.
*snort*
That badge is a get out of jail free card.
There’s a lot of agencies that would let him drive a desk, or work in the lockup so he could “meditate” on his mistake. Not this one. He’s definitely on the watch commanders shit list for a while. been there, done that (nothing this bad).

Must be nice to be able to “meditate” on something like this instead of paying the price a “civilian” would have if the situation were reversed.
And you wonder why increasingly cops are viewed with the utter contempt of the population you supposedly swore to “serve and protect”.
Sure, I'd like for them to be able to go home safe to their families at the end of the day, just like anybody else. But when they are blatantly breaking their own laws and endangering others who would also like to go home safe, there's just no excuse.
Yep.
An undisciplined militarized police force is just the State authorities begging for trouble. By the way, the general population of the USA should be considered citizens, not civilians. This will help keep the values of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence in place.
“I just dont like cops. “
Most of them go around “breeding a scab on the end of their nose.”
I had family members who were cops. One was a great and fair guy, very tough but fair. The other was a little squirt who couldn’t spell and was always trying to show how smart and powerful he was. They’re both dead now. I miss one of them.
It sure is. Unless the top brass doesn’t like ya.
“The speed limit is 30 and Ive never seen one going more than what I suspected to be 40.”........
Assuming the speed limit IS 30, I always thought that 40 was greater than 30. If your “radar” proves to be accurate, perhaps they WERE SPEEDING.
And, from what I’ve seen, the ithaca cops are actually some of the better ones.
