We watched JERSEY BOYS last night. Surprisingly good movie, considering how it was slammed on opening.
I do not see any Casablancas or Maltese Falcons or Ben Hurs or even a Driving Miss Daisy on that list. For sure no Ruggles of Red Gap.
How was the Imitation Game??
Sounds like we are close to being on the same page.
My three for the week were:
It happened on fifth Ave
The Thin Man
Ruggles of Red Gap
Father Goose
***until Claudius had a boy his age beheaded for coughing too much!!!***
That was Caligula that ordered that.
You have to drastically lower your expectations from years past before you go anywhere near a theater today.
Hope Hollywood takes notice that the highest grossing movies are “family” friendly. Not an “R” rating in the bunch.
We enjoyed the movie. You have to read the story before or after the movie,as they left many facts and distorted others.
Maleficent was a nice re-telling of Sleeping Beauty, I liked “True Love’s kiss” coming from the adoptive mom to her child.
Transformers was great “turn off your brain and enjoy” fun, nothing beats the spectacle of Optimus Prime riding a dino-bot holding a giant sword.
Captain America: a guy who represents America beating up on Communism
Hunger Games: people fighting against a tyrannical government
The X-men movie was worth it just for the scene with Evan Peters turning Quicksilver from useless to pretty impressive.
Didn’t see Lego or Planet of the Apes. Bottom line out of all tese movies is that none of them had a political agenda, and all the ones I’ve seen had very little profanity and no nudity that I can recall. I just find it strange that people are griping that the top grossing movies of the year were family-friendly.
I call it: women with flaccid triceps shooting arrows. ( Haven't seen it. )
Hollywood will only see the super heroes, talking raccoon, and talking tree. They will mix in the gay agenda and come up empty again.
Guardians of the Galaxy was delightful. Clever, funny, and easily the best picture of the year. Mockingjay was predictable, which isn’t bad: it’s the set up for the finale of a series, so it was limited in what it could do. X-Men was entertaining, and not the weakest of the series, but not the best. Like Captain America, it was too dark-—and I don’t mean depressing, I mean the visuals are so dark that often you can’t see the superhero combat-—always a bad thing.
Wasn’t that a great movie? “You! Man who has slept with a Latavarian.”
Am I the only one who’s noticed the “Top 10” is 8?
And I haven’t seen any of them, although my teenagers saw quite a few.
The Lego Movie was quite good. Smart, a good story and funny. I recommend it highly.
Oops. The last two didn’t “paste” for some reason...
9. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” $202.9 million.
10. “Big Hero 6,” $201.5 million.
Wow, not one of them what we would traditionally call a drama or comedy.
Wow. That makes 5 of the top 10 movies for 2014 Marvel related properties: Guardians, Captain America, X Men, Spider-Man and Big Hero.
IF Sony comes up for sale due to the recent hacking issues look out for Disney. Think they would want Spider-Man permanently back in the MCU instead of just a cameo appearance borrowed/bought from Sony?
Oops! Senior moment.
It was a good movie, but Hollywood dirtied it up as best it can. Their idea of a 13 year old is a drug addicted, porn watching, precocious jerk.
