When a fireman rescues a baby from a burning building, the fireman is not expected to care for the baby for life.
Rescue by definition is a very short term effort.
Good grief!
People expect Republican politicians to not act like politicians for some odd reason. The dog was an election prop, plain and simple. I feel badly for the dog, but hopefully he landed in a home where somebody actually gave a hoot about him when there were no cameras around.
The dog should be named “Conservative”, or “TEA”. Repub used him for the political campaign, then when he was no longer needed, walked away from him.
Just like how the GOPe feels about conservatives after an election.
I’d be interested in this story, only if, there was a kid standing on the dog, trying to reach the counter.
*That* would be newsworthy.
He used the dog as a prop. Plain and simple. No getting around it.
“Spokesperson says Scott was forced to send him back after he bit an employee”
“Have since adopted a seven-year-old lab called Tallee”
“The family decided that the best decision for the dog and all those who visit (the Governors Mansion) would be to have the grooming business find Reagan a more appropriate home with less people and activity,’ Sellers said. ‘It was a hard choice that sometimes pet owners have to make.’
Last Monday, reporters confronted Scott about the case of the vanishing dog. The governor said that Reagan scared the living daylights out of everyone living at his Tallahassee mansion and that it wasnt working out.
The dog, he said, would not stop barking if he saw a person carrying something.
Scott said that because of Reagans temperament, he had no choice but to return him to his previous owner.”
The January 2013 article gives both reasons, this June 2014 article only gives the lesser reason. Couldn’t be that the second author was less interested in the whole story so close to Election Day, could it?
Yellow labs are more aloof than black labs. I saw far more biter warnings in the yellow labs’ (especially the male ones) files than in the black labs’ files.
Well at least Scott didn’t have him for dinner....
The fact Gov. Scott had rescued this dog should be commended, not condemned. Rescue agencies always specify the animal should be returned to them if the adoption or fostering (the article doesn’t address which in this case) does not go well. Sometimes that is indeed the case, and the dog returns to the rescue agency. It sounds to me the dog did not adjust well to its new life; if that is indeed the case, Gov. Scott did the right thing by returning him.
It is entirely possible that the dog hates black people. Many do. With all the workers and visitors at the mansion it would be near impossible to have that situation continue. It would also be impossible to accurately report that story.
I'm not taking up for Scott on this issue; to be honest, I didn't really read all the way through it because to me, this is pretty weak. Many people attempt to rescue dogs and many times, it isn't a good fit. I had it happen to me; a dog I was assured was child friendly turned out to be anything but. I took him back so he could be placed with someone without children.
The bottom line is that with all the problems we face in politics, is this a legitimate reason to determine someone isn't a worthy political candidate? While Scott may have used the dog as a campaign prop, Orange Charlie used his 'wife' as one. Additionally, Scott didn't play musical chairs with his political party in an attempt to win an election.
Who do you work for ?????????
Do Portuguese water dogs taste better than yellow labs?
I have 3 rescue dogs that are a LOT OF WORK. But I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
Still this looks like a Democrat Hit Job.
What about LBJ and his abused beagles!!!!
Standard hit piece by the Tampa Bay Times (St. Pete Times). I’ve read vile, disgusting personal attacks on Scott by this rag! Most call it St. Pete Pravda.
