Skyfall has been labelled “nonsense” by Anthony Horowitz.

The author, who is writing a new James Bond novel himself, has admitted he was unimpressed by the latest movie in the famous franchise.

While Skyfall, which saw Daniel Craig take on the role of 007 for a third time, was a box office hit, Anthony admits he didn’t understand what all the fuss was about.

Once you've had George Lazenby and Roger Moore in the starring role, that ship has pretty much sailed.

Speaking of BS Bond films, Bond used to be concerned with, Oh, I don't know, serious things like thermonuclear blackmail, or destroying most of the US gold reserves and the resulting economic chaos in the West. I can't call Skyfall a terribly bad offering when you consider that its predecessor was about a conspiracy to control 15% of the freshwater supply of Bolivia. 1/7 -- of -- the -- freshwater -- supply -- of -- -- -- Bolivia?!

Two hours of Daniel Craig flexing his lips would have been an improvement. Anything would have been an improvement.

Besides, I hated the "feminist" M. Judi Dench was an embarrassment. Skyfall was a great Bond film if only because it meant good riddance to her.

The last several Bond movies have just been orgies of special effects and CGI. Very little in the way of writing, acting or story line. Actually they’re incoherent.

There is only one...

Indeed.

And, sorry about this, dude. But there can BE only one!

The Craig movies are the only Bond flicks I can tolerate, and I thought Skyfall was fantastic. I was just rewatching some Connery movies, and I was surprised that they were total crap in comparison.

Skyfall seemed dark and plodding. Didn’t feel any of the wit and humor that belong in a Bond film. Decent tune by Adele however.

Agreed that Craig is the most promising actor to have the role since its inception.

But, each movie has become too effects-oriented, too plot complicated, too location-dispersed.

In “The Rock” Connery says, “Back in my day we did it all with a snorkel and a pair of flippers.”

I think Craig could do it that way, but the studios wouldn’t allow that kind of simplicity.

The last 30 minutes were awful and stupid and dragged and dragged. A dumb ending.

I wanted to walk out of the movie theater

I’m convinced all the recent blather about a Black Bond is exactly the same play:

Agreed - the problem is that many folks will simply become sick of the idiocy of the debate and completely abandon the brand. There's far too many alternatives on the market now.

James Bond does not have the draw that it once did and newer generations look at Sean Connery the way we did "Charlie Chaplin".

No worse than the Roger Moore era when most of the Bond films followed the same formula on in different settings. Moonraker anyone?

“Last rat standing” was a great line. Far more appropriate than any idiotic Moore quip.

I’d have rather seen Clive Owen in the role but I appreciate the intensity that Craig has brought.

And imompletely open minded to seeing a black bond.....

Right after we see Adam Sandler as Shaft and that light loafer from How I Met Your Mother as Axel Foley....

I want to say that Ian Fleming specified that the only movie rights that could be sold from “The Spy Who Loved Me” was the title.

Iirc broccoli had the rights to all fleming except thunderball and casino royale farce

They don’t seem to be interested in the new novels but may have solo rights to the character

The Spy Who Loved Me was set in the Adirondacks. I mention this because the movies have no relation to the books apart from their titles and a few key characters. I think Bond refers to the “brown muddle of Jersey City” that he can see from Manhattan. He also refers to Troy, NY as a “criminal suburb of Albany.” Great stuff.

Sean Connery was paired with good writing, and just enough good scenery and women to entice.

Gold Finger was the best, but Thunderball was close.

All the rest since have been too flashy, unrealistic or just implausible.

We were up against the Russians, who were worthy opponents. And the whole spy thing really is about the Cold War or at least big power espionage.

You're absolutely correct. Those Bond films are touch points of popular culture.
