We should demand the president take action. Perhaps he could give a three hour speech and BORE the Fleas to death

Or..perhaps they would succumb to the Peoples Ale??

Not to worry, plague is endemic in the SW U.S. The pneumonic form is highly contagious — coughing, sneezing, will spread it quickly in crowded conditions.

A young friend just arrived there for the Peace Corps. Told her a while back not to go because of all the deadly diseases.

We won’t have to bring them here. There will be Duncans charity workers bringing themselves here. Flights in and out of there 24/7. Then there’s the cargo ships.

"The fleas that transmit this ancient disease from rats to humans have developed resistance to the first-line insecticide."

And what is that 'first-line insecticide'? The article doesn't say, nor do its links.

***the fleas will come in their luggage.***

In the plague years (1665-1666)a small plague free town in England took a consignment of clothing from plague ridden London. It was noticed some fleas jumped out of the clothing. Within a few weeks almost all of the town was dead of plague.

My military records show I have been vaccinated for plague.

DDT, banned after Rachel Carson’s bogus book linking it to the death of several predatory bird species.

I know about the Rachel Carson (MSRIH) thing. Are they using DDT in Madagascar? The article and its sources don’t say. It would be a bit disturbing if bugs were growing resistant to DDT.

Update...kind of:

“The Black Death arrived in Britain from central Asia in the autumn of 1348 and by late spring the following year it had killed six out of every 10 people in London. Such a rate of destruction would kill five million now. By extracting the DNA of the disease bacterium, Yersinia pestis, from the largest teeth in some of the skulls retrieved from the square, the scientists were able to compare the strain of bubonic plague preserved there with that which was recently responsible for killing 60 people in Madagascar. To their surprise, the 14th-century strain, the cause of the most lethal catastrophe in recorded history, was no more virulent than today’s disease. The DNA codes were an almost perfect match.”
