S.S. Check
Self ^ | 2/10/15 | Self

Posted on 02/10/2015 3:52:10 AM PST by Graybeard58

Did anybody else fail to receive the 01.6% raise on their S.S. check?

I dread it but I have to go to the S.S. office to see what's going on or rather to see what's not going on.

I suspect that raise went straight into Obama's stash.

I'm 69 years old and am betting that I will be 30 years older than the next oldest person in that waiting room.

Yep....that was my experience when I visited them twice to get a replacement card. Full of immigrants, young ‘disabled’ people and baby mama’s looking for SSI. No gray or blue haired in the bunch except me.

I sat waiting for hours to get to see a representative. Through the magic doors out came a lady who escorted me back to my official representative. A blind man who the escort read and spoke the inputs to the competent representative who just blind typed what she said into his computer. First application for the card ‘somehow’ got effed up and I had to go back. I got a young minority lady next time who treated my like a criminal because I was back again - somehow I was trying to get multiple cards in her mind. A wholly disconcerting experience.

Mine comes from SSDI as does my wife. SS holds the first check back meaning you get it last. IOW my check for Feb was for FEB if something happened to me between now and March my wife would not have to return any of the check because the amount was held back on the first month I think.

IIRC my dads regular SS retirement when he passed mom didn't have to return any portion either. Anyway my increase notice form does say money {increase} would be there in check deposited on Jan 2, 2015.

My experience with my mother’s death is that SS stopped ANY payments immediately, whether she was due one last check or not. Don’t count on it because there really isn’t anything you can do. They’re grubbing for anything they can take from you.

Exactly what mine says, nevertheless, it was not there on Jan2 or Feb 2.

Usually, the annual increases are effective ON January 1, thus appearing on the January check.

Did you get your Benefit Amount form (for 2015) in the mail last fall?
Did it show the 1.6% increase?
Did you get an increase in your Medicare premium deduction?
Did it show any other deductions?

You should have an account at SSA.GOV. You might log in to it to see what it is showing.

You can download an annual calendar which shows when checks/deposits are made, based on birthdays:

http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/calendar.htm

I have auto-deposit, and my monthly is deposited early AM on the exact Wednesday, not the birthday. Mine is the 3rd Wednesday following the 1st Wednesday of the month. It fluctuate between about the 16th and the 22nd, depending on how the days of the month line up.

It goes by the Wednesday nearest your b/day. I got mine on the 4th Wed of the month because my b/day is on the 29th of the month, I got it that way for about 5 years anyway, then they inexplicably changed it to the second day of the month. It's been that way for about 2 years now. It's regular S.S., not disability or anything else. I'm the only person I know who gets an ordinary S.S. check on the second day of the month.

Yes, yes, no and no. They told me I’d get an 01.6% increase and I did not. It’s that simple.

I stopped by the S.S. office about an hour ago, the place was jammed packed. The guard told me that Thursdays are usually slower, I’ll go back and try again.
