Cockatoo reenacts previous owners' arguments

RALEIGH, N.C.- A North Carolina woman who bought a cockatoo from a divorcing couple said the bird keeps reenacting its former owners' arguments.

Elaine Sigmon said she and her husband, Don, recently obtained Peaches the Moluccan cockatoo from a couple who separated and the former owners apparently weren't shy about having arguments in front of the bird.

Sigmon said Peaches reenacts her former owners' squabbles "once or twice a day."

Here in NC we also have “Mike Peterson”, convicted 13 + years ago of pushing his wife down a flight of stairs and killing her.

Seems like women would quit marrying those Petersons.

One of my church members is involved in parrot rescue. She says it’s not at all uncommon for older birds to reenact very surprising personal conflicts.

I saw this over on LiveLeak and thought “That poor bird”. He’s quite the performer though and plays all the roles.

Cockatoos are good at that. When my then 10-year old daughter went on a weekend field trip, her brothers put a boombox in her room which played the "George of the Jungle" theme song on an endless-repeat CD track for the whole weekend.

She had to listen to the bird sing that song for weeks when she came back.

http://www.lyricsondemand.com/tvthemes/georgeofthejunglelyrics.html

George, George
George of the Jungle,
Strong as he can be.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree!

George, George,
George of the Jungle,
Lives a life that's free.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree!

When he gets in a scrape,
he makes his escape
with the help of his friend,
an ape named Ape.
Then away he'll schlep
on his elephant Shep
While Fella and Ursula*
Stay in step.

Well....George, George
George of the Jungle,
Friend to you and me.

Watch out for that tree!

Oh, no, now I’m going to be hearing George of the Jungle all day in my head. But on the bright side, I guess it’s better than “It’s a Small World”, shudder...
