The cab driver in the crash which killed veteran CBS correspondent Bob Simon had his license suspended at least half a dozen times prior to the fatal accident, according to police sources.
Reshad Abdul Fedahi, from Queens, New York, also had two previous traffic convictions, NBC reported. The license suspensions had been cleared up, authorities also said, and Mr Fedahi, 44, was driving on a probationary license.
Daily Mail Online was awaiting a comment from the Taxi and Limousine Commission on the driver's previous suspensions but the agency earlier confirmed that Fedahi’s probationary license had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
Holding a probationary license means that the driver has been behind the wheel for less than a year.
A preliminary investigation into the crash which killed the 73-year-old veteran reporter also suggested that a combination of speed, an inexperienced driver and the fact the reporter wasn't wearing a seatbelt could be responsible, according to police sources.

Not just in big cities. 4 years ago, I had to take a cab from my home to the doctor - which was like a 15 minute drive. OMG I did alot of praying while in the cab. This cab driver was like in his early 60’s but you can tell he was from either India or the Middle East. Especially when he had to talk to the center. I couldn’t figure out what language he was speaking but it was foreign. He drove so fast and he was driving off and on the line pertaining to the next lane. I’m like “Please God get me home safe” LOL.
I’m glad Illegals don’t get driver license ...o wait nevermind. No more cabs for me unless it is extremely emergency LOL.

Someone made an interesting comment on that link. Is Bob jewish? and is the driver a Muslim? Makes you go hmmmm.. Was this truly an accident? - just saying.
I was just trying to pose that question when I saw your post. It might be interesting to know if Simon was just talking on his cell phone at the time of the crash, and if so, what the subject might have been.

In DC it seems most of the cabbies are middle eastern. Act as though they don’t know their way to the fricken most popular tourist places, then drive you around in circles. That’s OK, there is no law that says I tip those particular clowns.
The last time I took a cab - in my home town about 2 months ago after a trip - I selected a cab with am older woman behind the wheel. ;)

I suspect this is one of the reasons UBER is becoming more and more popular.
My friend’s son was killed in a similar situation, in a limo going from a wedding to the reception. Massive head injury.
Bus is safer but less convenient.
Simon wasn’t wearing a seat belt according an article I read. Speeding apparently
was also a factor or at least alluded to. For that Lincoln Town Car to be that torn up
I’d say speed was certainly a factor.
I never even heard of UBER until a few months back. I had zero idea what it was - had to urban dictionary it.

BTW, remember when Gov. Jon Corzine almost got killed when his limo was speeding and got into an accident? He wasn't wearing a seatbelt, either.
