Meet America's Most Hated Retailer

For Walmart, the dip in its customer satisfaction ratings could spell more trouble ahead. Retailers, after all, are at the whim of the consumer, who is typically looking for a mix of good prices, selection and customer service. If a retailer starts to fail on those fronts, it can end up in what ACSI director David VanAmburg calls "a deadly cycle." On top of that, Walmart's well-publicized struggles with calls from employees for higher pay and benefits may be taking a toll.

"They are not as dominant on the price side as they were, and the quality still isn't there," VanAmburg told CBS Moneywatch. "They haven't stepped up their game on that side, so we are seeing a lot of dissatisfaction by comparison."

Walmart, meanwhile, has been criticized by activists and employees for its low wages, which have prompted embarrassing episodes such as company stores holding food drives for their own workers. It doesn't look very good for the nation's biggest private employer when its workers have to rely on handouts and government aid to make ends meet.

Conversely, the top-rated speciality retail store, Costco, has benefited from a few trends, including its relatively high pay for retail workers and access to benefits, with Bloomberg BusinessWeek calling it the "happiest company in the world."

Walmart sure does rake in the profits for so much hate. Methinks the msm protests too much.

Costco is a strong unionized, pro left store, with wonderful support from the left.

“”Retail Politics: Hillary Clinton Heads to Costco, Skips Walmart on Latest Book Tour””

“This Saturday Hillary Clinton is scheduled to swing by a Costco in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC, for a book signing—part of her tour touting her new release, Hard Choices. The choice of venue isn’t all that surprising: the discount retail outlet has become a favorite among liberals thanks to its reasonable wages and generous health benefits. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden love to get photographed yucking it up at Costco stores, while the company’s co-founder and former CEO spoke at the Democrats’ 2012 convention.”

Walmart was started by a devout Christian businessman.

...

He was also very smart, well educated and used a lot of technology.

I've been in a number of companies who are suppliers to the large retailers, including Tesco, Wal-Mart and Target. Wal-Mart treats their suppliers very fairly while the others tend to screw with you on a consistent basis.

Those announcing the death of Wal-Mart...are premature. They're a healthy, smart retailer continuing to invest in a down economy and setting themselves up to grow. They view their competition very simply: Amazon. WMT is working on being more of a distribution company than retailer and this will also serve them well.

Great hotdogs, too.

I think the only point that one should get about those misfits that Walmart employs, is that they would have no idea what a union was ... LOL ...

Walmart’s basic protection from unions is the stupidity of their workers that they hire ... :-) ...

I had to get over that, too.

When you go to a garbage dump or landfill, you just can’t wait to “do your business” and get out of there. It takes a while to get the smell out of your nose, and you might even have to take a bath afterwards. That’s just the way it is with garbage dumps ... and ... Walmart ... :-) ...

You should avoid shopping at a place that you hate so much, and have to be among people that you hate so much and that requires so much labor, like showering and visiting “normal” stores every time you stop at Walmart to shop, especially since it causes you to slip into depression when you do it.

Someone so emotionally unstable should quit doing what is affecting them so much and causing such powerful and negative emotional episodes.

You sound pretty neurotic and obsessed, and rather bizarre.

I avoid WM, it’s just an unpleasant shopping experience. And their way low prices are often achieved by sacrificing quality.

Love Walmart.

One of my favorite stores. REI and Cabelas are up there too.

I didn’t think that their politics would disagree with you, I guessed that one correctly.

Their employees are just fine, but thanks for revealing your union angle.

Walmart is that bad ... LOL ... what can you say than ... that’s life. You have to do some distasteful things from time to time ... :-) ...

But, anyone who has been on Walmart knows, just from their own observation, how bad of a store it is. The only good thing about getting some name brand product there ... is that the product is SEALED and can’t get some of the diseases that these misfit employees are most likely carrying with them.

I didn’t mention anything about a union ... but about the EMPLOYEES ... in that Walmart had no concerns regarding a union because the employees are too dumb to even understand a thing about it ... LOL ...

You’ve got “union” on the brain ... while I marvel that such people as Walmart employees exist in the first place ... :-) ...

I don't shop there for the politics. I shop there for the quality goods at low prices. If you think that's leftist then it's you who is questionable and not me.
