The Mass Murderer on Your $20
Daily Beast ^ | February 26, 2015 | Arthur Chu

So we’re in late February, which means it’s the season for local Jefferson-Jackson Days, when local Democratic Parties hold potlucks to raise money and get people pumped for Get Out the Vote drives. It’s also shortly after President’s Day, which is, for me, always a day spent reminiscing about random presidential trivia and tweeting unpopular opinions.

And for once one of those unpopular opinions caught the attention of an editor and now I’m writing about how the “Jackson” in Jefferson-Jackson Day is an abomination. Indeed, I want to grab my fellow Democrats who say stupid, historically ignorant things about how George W. Bush was “the worst President ever” by the lapels and shove them at Andrew Jackson’s Wikipedia entry, rubbing their nose in it until they understand what they did.

The south wanted to go its own way.

Bombarding Fort Sumter was just a hobby?

Fort Sumter is in the middle of Charleston Harbor.

That is not in the North.

No country would allow another to occupy it’s main harbor.

There are many things about the War Between the States which can be honestly debated but the fact that the North was the aggressor is not one of them.

What does Gitmo have to do with anything?

Avoiding war by firing on a Federal Fort. Sort of like screwing for virginity. Lincoln called up 75,000 volunteers after the Confederate Government decided to start a war by firing on Fort Sumter. They had a choice,
Anderson told Beauregard that he would surrender the fort
with in 48 hours if not resupplied. Davis order Beauregard to open fire before any resupply effort could be carried out, even thou the resupply was food for the garrison. The reason the south wanted to be left alone was so that 3,000,000 slaves could continue to plant their cotton, tobacco, rice and indigo unencumbered by such concepts as freedom.

For you information, Fort Sumter was Federal Property. The land for the Fort was deeded in perpetuity to the United States Government by the Government of South Carolina.

Oh sure, they also guaranteed that Abe Lincoln could tour Florida anytime he wanted.

Charleston wasn’t the souths “main” harbor.

It sure as heck was when Lincoln ordered the re-supply of Fort Sumter. I suspect it remained so but in case you think it was Norfolk, Virginia was still in the Union at the time.

Try New Orleans. Of the cotton shipped from southern ports 50% was shipped from NO.

I have no idea of how much cotton was shipped out of New Orleans and I doubt anyone does.

It just doesn’t make sense anyway. New Orleans was a huge distance to travel from Europe.

Yes the Lincoln worshiper. The creator of the Federal behemoth. Very much responsible for what we have now.

Also he was personally responsible for the deaths of around 700,000 people the majority of them Yankees.
