I hate texting. I hate the way it restricts me. It's great that I can stay in touch while on the road, but it's a pain in the butt.
I can't reference my thoughts with links that would generally be a few "copy and paste" clicks away.
I can't stand the screen size of my "Smart Phone" and I have one of the largest available.
I hate using the pop up key board that tries to "Help" me.
Ever try to search for and paste a link to something that wasn't already planned for?
Good luck.
I love my PC.
I love that I have the ability to capture information and relay it in seconds. Information that may or may not be stored on my machine. A quick search and a few clicks and I can send it to you without jumping through smart phone hoops.
I hate Texting.
I hate BRB, and all the others that are making people lazy when trying to express themselves.
WTF !!
It's the death of us, the death of our language and the meaning of words in their proper context.
Touch screen convenience at it's best?".
Short cuts designed to "Help" us get our message across have made so many miss the message all together.
I hate Texting.
I used to program computers with vacuum tubes in them.
Wrote assembly language code for a Univac 1105.
Before that, I sent & decoded messages using the rotating crypto dial on the back of my Captain Video glow-in-the-dark plastic belt's buckle.
That's older.
That is not old, sonny.

Dirt, clearly has nothing on you.
You know who really got screwed in the whole txt’n thing?
Think way back.. The pager came out, it beeped, you called the office. Then the digital pager came out, it beeped and displayed a number and you called them..
Then the 2 way pager came along, it was txt’n in the 90s with one small problem.
The mobile phone dropped with in a year.
Now, what, 15 years later? we are txt’n...
Dudes idea peeked 15 years to early.
me, too. I hate smart phones. I love my laptop, tablet, have done some programming, photo editing for work, format hard drives, could build my own PC and will be replacing the broken monitor on my son’s laptop, so it’s not a tech thing. It’s a tiny picture thing. I also hate not having a mouse on a laptop. Oh, did I say I don’t like Google wanting access to every stinking file on my phone when I want to download an app? Forget it, google. Go txt yourself.
Without a doubt.
I think Nextel, with their two-way one touch radio technology is superior to texting for all practical purposes.
Push the bottom, make a connection, say what you need to say and get the reply as needed.
The whole of texting as I see it has become a medium for an excuse to be “superficial”.
Yep...iPhone with iMessage and voice recognition / dictation. Use it all the time to keep in touch with our kids. Love it!
I can hardly communicate without a mouse.
It’s faster and more flexible than any touch screen could ever hope to be.
I will never give up my mouse.
I like the mini-mouse and have gone through 2 so far. Just haven’t gotten out to get a replacement yet. I’ve learned short cuts with the touch pad but still hate it.
Maybe sexting is a better alternative???
LOL!
oh, and a touch screen or touch pad with the new webpage layouts having layered pages really sucks. Touch the wrong part of the page and the one you are reading disappears. really stupid.
Rhomboid and rhombic: keywords that presented me with another area of study in antennas. Thanks. :-)
You dont have to be out in the boonies. I work in a manufacturing plant and my office, Im guessing because of all the heavy machinery just outside my office, the metal roof, etc., acts sort of like a Faraday Cage I cant get a cell phone signal, receive or send calls or get a wi-fi signal on my phone but texts seem to work just fine.
If someone tries to call me on my cell phone while I am at work, often I dont even hear it ring and it goes straight to VM and I sometimes dont get the alert that I have a VM until hours later.
So I tell folks, especially my niece and nephew who have little kids and I am their emergency backup in case one of their kids needs picked up from school, to text me rather than call me. To text me if they really need to get a hold of me right away (or alternately call my office phone number in an emergency).
At my company we also recently started using a text service to alert employees of Weather Bulletin days, delayed openings, cancelled shifts, etc. The service does allow people to have the message sent to their personal emails or send an automated voice mail to their phone, but most, nearly all have opted for the text messages, and it works really well. We also in my department use group text messages to let each other know if we are running late or not coming into work. While I may also follow up with call my boss or my direct report, its nice just to do one simple short text to the entire group like stuck in big traffic jam running late.
I dont particularly like texting, my fat fingers dont seem to work well on my Galaxy phone and I havent mastered the voice recognition thing, but it is great for short messages like running late b there in 10 or at store need me to pick up anything?
My niece and nephew and their spouses (all in their 30s) seem to rely on texting a lot when sometimes a phone call would serve better.
Not long ago my niece was sending me texts about her father, my brother having been rushed to the hospital, after about the 6th text message, I finally texted her back please just call me.
I proclaim this Thread DEAD !!!
Please stop posting to it.
Great, Thanks and bite me.
This IS THE END !!!!!!!!!!
No more,
I’m DONE !!!!!
You all should be done as well.
That’s east... I just text, “call me.” :-)
I hate texting too but your character entry was confusing.
When I’m selling on Craigslist, texting helps to weed out the spammers and scammers.
Reminds me...Where can I read up on “T-9”? Never used it on my cellphone.
