If you are using Safari, just copy the address line out of the nav bar. It may look like just the title of the page, but if you paste it into anywhere else it pastes in the actual URL.

“Post” is located right next to “Pings” at the top left’ish area of the FR forum page BTW.

If you are saying you want to be able to see the address bar and safari tools in your browser window, they are under the main menu<View<Show tool bar.
You can also customize that tool bar under the “Customize toolbar” option.
If I misunderstood what you were asking for I apologize.

Yes. Download Firefox and stop using safari. You will be happy you did.

It only shows the name of the website in the address bar, until you click on the address bar. Then the URL will show up.

To get the specific address (URL) of the page you are on in Safari, just click on the general URL in the address bar (where it says freerepublic.com above) and it will be both revealed and selected; then just hit Command C to copy.
I hope that answers your question. BTW I had the same question once, too.

See what happened was that for a long time, I was very cautious about upgrading to the newest Apple OS X because of “bad reviews”. Been using since I first got my present Mac Mini the Snow Leopard. But read somewhere that Apple has stop supporting it. I suspect Apple will do that for the other OSX’s that go with the names of big cats in the future. So when I was seeing a messge in my e-mail inbox to remind me to upgrade all the time, I knew it was time to move on up.

Biggilrl, one of our fellow Freepers, had a question which it appears has been answered by our ever helpful group of Mac users. However her question has general interest so I thought I should ping the list with her question and also provide an explanation.
Biggirl was essentially asking why she could not see the full URL on the address bar in Safari. This is actually a safety and security measure for all of us. When we connect to a CERTIFIED Website, meaning one where there is a CERTIFICATE on file that the website is actually the REAL website to which we actually wished to connect, we will see only the NAME of the website.
However, if there is NO CERTIFICATE on file, or the CERTIFICATE has lapsed, you will see the entire URL of the website.
How is this helpful to us? If we are attempting to connect to a bank, it WILL have a CERTIFICATE on file. If we see a full URL, we are connected to a FAKE site, without a CERTIFICATE and an address that has somehow intercepted our attempt to connect to the bank! DO NOT PUT IN YOUR USER NAME AND PASSWORD! If we see only the name of the bank website, we are OK to proceed.
For many websites, there may not be a certificate. These are your cousin's Jim's website, or the website of the auto repair site down the street, or a restaurant where you are thinking about eating tonight. . . but they are unimportant in the scheme of internet security. However, those that will require memberships such as FreeRepublic.com will usually have a certificate assuring that you are on the correct website.
Apple has designed the Address Bar to assist us in knowing when we are where we are supposed to be. PING!

Good luck, Biggirl! I upgraded to Yosemite last fall, and there are/were some annoying things about it, but overall it’s great.
If you use your Mac a lot, you’ll probably get used to the quirks in a couple of days.
Have you run into the invisible scroll bar thing yet?
