Review: Will Ferrell's 'Get Hard' Is the Antidote to Elite Media's Racial Hysteria
Bretibart ^

Go to Starbucks and order a “tall blonde, black” and engage your barista in a serious conversation about race. Once you’re feeling adequately entitled, head over to your local movie theater, and go see Get Hard, the new comedy out Mar. 27 featuring Will Farrell and Kevin Hart–preferably after midnight, when the audience will be (ahem) more inclined to talk back to the screen. And laugh the P.C. police away.

Get Hard is a genuinely funny movie. It pokes fun, mercilessly, at America’s racial politics–which is precisely why the left is telling itself to hate the film. At the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, one audience member–evidently in need of a humor transplant–arose during the Q&A to offer the enlightened opinion that “This film seems racist.”

Really? And in related news, a teacher in L.A. was suspended for using the “n-word” in appropriate historical context. We’ve come that far.

There is nothing racist about the film–though it satirizes racial stereotypes, as well as the absurd racial and class themes of contemporary politics.

The story is about a white fund manager (Ferrell) who is sentenced to maximum security prison for fraud, and asks the car wash attendant (Hart), whom he assumes has already been to prison, to help him prepare. His fear is being sexually assaulted in prison–which leads, yes, to some edgy gay humor.

For daring to tackle these politically-charged themes, debut director Ethan Cohen has, ridiculously, fallen under a cloud of suspicion. The Associated Press notes that Cohen co-wrote Tropic Thunder–“a film that memorably flirted with racially sensitive territory.”

Cohen’s film also includes a (funny) joke that compares a Compton street gangster to a “young Ronald Reagan.” If I should have been offended, as a conservative, I forgot to notice. I just laughed.

You will, too.

Or as Mustafa in Austin Powers...”Hello out there. Anyone. Can someone call an ambulance, I’m in quite a lot of pain.”

He spells it Ferrell. In fact, my main beef with him is that he has exactly the same name, same spelling, as my grandfather. Will Ferrell born in the 1870s was a poet but just try googling his name now. But I agree, he is not funny. (the comedian, not my grandfather) I also do not think that Betty White is funny. In fact, I went out of my way to avoid the two episodes of Community where she appeared because I just cannot stand the woman. I was relieved when the rest of season was “Betty White Free.”

I saw Kevin Hart’s latest movie, something about Wedding Organizing’. I hated it! The character played by Kevin was such an arrogant a-hole, so obnoxious and openly racist, that I was rooting for one of his ‘rich white boy nerd’ customers to tire of his abuse and give little Kevin a nice knuckle sandwich, special delivery. He seemed to be focused on being an ‘expert’ and at being unlikable, unapproachable. So fine, we won’t and don’t like you. Happy now? I walked out after about 40 minutes.

Good catch. The first and second Powers movies were pretty good. Cowbell was good on SNL. Reminded me of the days when they wrote comedy at SNL, before the days they completely lost their mojo and fell back on politician parodies.

I remember going to starbucks years ago and trying to order my “black” coffee. The jerks behind the counter never understood (or pretended to) what I meant.

Starbucks lingo for black coffee is “no room” as in, “no room for cream”.

” And I doubt Get Hard will be anything but a weak non-funny “whites are stupid” flick...”

And blacks are smart and cool. Based on the ads I’ve seen, that’s exactly what it looks like. Another descent down the cultural sewer.

Jamie Foxx was great on that show

That show was hilarious. Jamie Foxx playing a ugly black woman could never get a date. That one skit the guy said he needed to go get fuel for his car as a excuse and he pulled out a gas can from his purse. I got you covered I think he tells the guy.

I saw a stand up routine by one of the Wayans brothers it was hilarious. They are very talented.

Also, who could ever have played Alex Trebek better????

No matter how much you hate Will Ferrell, you can’t not laugh:

I concur. Will Farrell is about as funny as terminal cancer.

I wouldn’t cross the street to pee on him if he was on fire.

(*sigh*) I can’t stand Will Ferrell but my boyfriend loves him. And since it’s his turn to pick the movie this weekend then it looks like I’m going to have to be a trooper and watch “Get Hard” this weekend.

One of my favorite bits in that movie is when a guy takes out a piece of gum. I forget who asks if he has enough for everyone. I think they shoot him? It has been a while since I have seen it.

The last version I saw they let the sheriff say the n word, but bleeped out when a non-black said it.

I haven't seen it, but he may be more about being short and urban (reasons enough for being cocky) than just Black. Consider too, that his own studio was bad mouthing him in the hacked emails. Anyway, I'm not going to bother with Kevin Hart's movies, but if he were worse than Will Ferrell he'd have to be a really awful person indeed.
