I saw the video. The guy flees from police and then plows into a few cars and when finally cornered he doesn’t give up. Bad mistake on his part. Police only had seconds to react and chose to take him down. I think I am with the police on this one.

Unarmed except that ton of metal he was driving. I’m sure the driver of the car he hit though he used it as a weapon.

Why was he fleeing?

Why was he shot?

Why not check the linked article with its video of the incident. That SHOULD answer your question. If you still can’t understand why he was shot it’s unfortunate that you couldn’t have been there as an unarmed “peace officer” who could volunteer to approach the perp to calm him down as he reached into the rear seat of his car. You’d be down for that?

every one of these damn stories starts off with “fleeing” or “resisting arrest”.. Take that out of the equation and most of these perps would be living.

Not sure what you meant.

I'm not always on the LEOs side, but this guy did everything he could to get shot.

Sorry, anyone who finds the cops culpable in this particular case has another agenda.

The unrecorded interviewing tactics were great also.

Place thick phone book on suspect’s head, slam rotary phone down on it as hard as possible...

I can’t fault the police for this one.

...why was he shot if the police did not actually see a weapon.

You mean no weapon apart from the car?

I know hundreds of retired cops in their 60’s and 70’s and almost every one of them says the same thing, and NONE of them will have anything to do with today’s “law enforcement officers”, because they were all “Peace Officers”

Totally different from the retired LEOs I know. We have breakfast once a month and a bunch of us are in a Jeeping group. I never hear anything bad about today's officers. Yes, there will always be a few bad apples, but most are doing a fine job.

I read the article and I was wondering if he had any kids.

Bet he wondered, too.

I read the article and it is another case of the police shooting and killing someone who was not a threat. So what's your point?

And in this case, sure I'd approach him as an "unarmed police officer". The worst he could do would be to run again.

It’s good you aren’t an LEO. You wouldn’t survive long.

Neither do unarmed motorists these days.

My cousin and her husband killed when woman fleeing police rammed their car pushing them into traffic. Cop shoulda shot her before she destroyed an innocent family.

Your “logic” works fine with you sitting in front of your computer AFTER THE FACT...KNOWING that there was no weapon in his back seat. So it’s EASY for you to imagine yourself as a valiant, fearless “unarmed police officer” approaching the guy to reason with him.

The cops, on the other hand, did not have YOUR luxury of KNOWING he was unarmed. What do you IMAGINE they were thinking the perp was rapidly reaching for? Perhaps a snickers bar or some popcorn? They had less that a handful of seconds to make a decision and they made the proper one, INHO. These officers have families to go home to after their shift.
