Former Gitmo Prisoners Demand Reparations from US
A group of former Guantanamo Bay prison camp detainees have staked out the U.S. embassy in Uruguay in a demonstration meant to pressure the U.S. government to provide them taxpayer-funded reparations for their time spent in the terrorist prison, according to Uruguayan officials.
Three of the six former detainees sent to Uruguay following their release from Gitmo have spent days camped in front of the U.S. embassy located in Montevideo, according to Uruguayan officials and regional reports.

Right-and not to digress... but I read that most of them held dual citizenship and their VERY unambiguous and vocal Anti-American sentiment was documented.
When Pearl Harbor was attacked, thousands immediately applied for permission to leave America and return to Japan.
So many bogged down the applications process that legislation was introduced to limit applications in war time.
I'd love to retrieve the article where I first read this... I remember it was a reputable source.

The US should never have paid reparations to the Japanese who were interred during WWII. The internment of Americans of Japanese descent was one of FDR's biggest sins against the constitution and was also a huge land grab the benefited FDR's donors.
The 'reparations' were a pittance compared to what was stolen. What should have occurred was to freeze their assets (houses, lands, etc.) instead of stealing them for non-payment of taxes.
