The Chevelle is one of Americas favorite classic muscle cars. If you turn on your favorite televised classic car auctions at random, chances are that there will be a Chevelle crossing the block. With so much attention, the Chevelle is pretty much an open book, yet here are some lesser-known facts:

“I do harbor a love for the midsize GM products of the 60s/70s.”
Me too. If I had the one pic I have left of my first car handy, I’d post it here. A ‘71 Skylark Custom. I had ET-X wheels all around with G50-14’s on in the front with L60-15’s on in the back.

>>>”I really prefer the Olds 442 or Buick GS siblings”
My brother had a beautiful 67 or 68 Olds 442. It was turquoise with white interior. Had a clear t-handle on the Hurst shifter.

Ford is out. UAW builds cars there. Also when I was looking for my last car the Ford options I looked at are having transmission problems. I bought a KIA and it has 75000 with no problems.

Now I had a 67 Plymouth Satellite I bought new. I was 17 and working full time nights and college days. Sold it 3 years later. Still regret selling it. I tell my wife I’m trading the cutlass for an equivalent condition 67 satellite. Of course I can’t trade her grandpa’s car.
I still want the satellite or gtx though
My first car was a ‘69 Chenille Malibu ( the “Mali-” part fell off, so I called the car “Bu” ) coupe, in gray. It was just a car, I’m not a car guy. It was only $250. I ran it for a while, until....
I was at work on a Saturday. I parked somewhat inconveniently for the dump trucks, so I had to move it out of the way. I was slowly backing up toward a cement wall, intending to get the car as far away from all the dump truck action, and I touched the back bumper to the wall.
Died.
NEVER FREAKING RAN AGAIN. It was running perfectly until I hit the blue screen of DEATH secret kill switch on the bumper. Worked and worked trying to restart that stupid car. It quickly landed in the junk yard. I sold that horrid mess for scrap.
Coincidentally, most of my Chevrolet experiences are quite similar. I’ve had horrific luck with ‘em. Better luck with Fords, even better experience with Jeeps, and Honda products.
That dark blue Chevelle Malibu was my first car!
Sometimes you make your own luck ... and you do it badly.
I like the Mopars up to about 1970. The Charger and Satellite models’ styling we awry in ‘71. To me, they just didn’t look as good, especially when compared to the GM A-body cars.
I replaced that with a 66 Impala SS. Beautiful car. Ran like a monster. When it ran. Which was seldom. Ended up replacing two motors and finally blew the rear end out. Sold it to a stock car driver for a tenth of what I had it in.
I've never owned another Chevy since. I never will.
True.
Did you own one in the cold areas.
I’d take the ‘70 Charger R/T (as shown) over the 2015 any day.
I do see the appeal of a modern EFI system on those older cars, though. We forget how quirky automobiles used to be.
Me too. The Charger is an embarrassment. Doesn’t look anything like the original. And 4 doors to boot! The only retros I like are the Mustang and VW Bug. Can’t stand the Camaro.
