An elderly man who'd just returned home after months in the hospital said he was hungry, had no food and no one to turn to for help. So he dialed 911.

"I can't do anything. I can't go anywhere. I can't get out of my damn chair." Clarence Blackmon, 81, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, told the 911 operator, according to ABC station WTVD in Durham.

"I said, 'I'm not broken, I'm not bleeding, and I'm not in crisis. I just want somebody to help me buy some food,'" he told ABC News.

This is what the ‘church ladies’ use to do in their neighborhoods before they went to college, became Feminists, got drunk, had orgies, tossed the babydaddy, got a career telling us what to do and a nanny to raise the baby that survived abortion.

LET ME REEDUCATE you. When my father was dismissed on a Friday evening to my home an hour and half away (Where I cared for him for another 5 years). He was delivered to my home by ambulance before I could get home. The wheelchair, hospital. Bed camode depends, bed mats etc that I ORDERED Friday morning did not show up until Monday—— Worse weekend ever!

There was little food in the house since I had stayed by his side for two weeks. Since he was on a liquid diet provided by the DR until we could receive an order by UPS even that became an issue; only I needed food.

If it hadn’t been for church family I would have called 911 who deposited dad in a chair by himself without my arrival or anyone else being home. I got stuck in traffic. The ambulance went around with lights on .....SO they could hurry up and get him to an empty house He was ready to call 911 having no idea where I was or what arrangements had been made.

I'm very careful not to do anything remotely dangerous when I'm alone.

I know my limits and I don't push it.

Heck, I haven't driven a car since the first of the year because I know better.

Wish more would give up their keys.

I can hire transportation to do what I need to get done.

I can cook for myself, or hire that part out if I need to.

It is possible without help, but it has to be planned for. It doesn't just happen like it did when someone was in their 20s.

Obese Ohio Man Found Fused to Chair He Sat in for 2 Years

Published March 29, 2011NewsCore

A morbidly obese Ohio man was in the hospital Tuesday after police found him fused to a chair he had not moved from in two years and were forced to cut a hole in the wall of his house just to get him out, WTRF-TV reported.

The unnamed man lived with two able-bodied roommates — including his girlfriend, who officials said fed him since he never got up — in a home in Bellaire, Ohio. The roommates called police upon finding the man unresponsive on Sunday.

Officers who responded to the scene said that the man’s skin was fused to the fabric of chair and that he was sitting in his own feces and urine with maggots visible.

One officer said it was the worst thing he had ever responded to. Another told the local TV station he had to throw away his uniform after helping remove the man from the chair.

“The living room where the man lived in his chair was very filthy, very deplorable. It’s unbelievable that somebody lives in conditions like that,” Jim Chase, a local city code enforcer, told WTRF.

“I instructed the landlord this [Monday] morning and the two people, the tenants at the house, they had to get it cleaned, there’s no way they can live in something like that, and so they are working on it,” he added.

The landlord told WTRF that the man used to be an active person and said she had no idea how bad his condition was since he covered himself with a blanket every time she came to visit.

How old are you? Just wait, you will be old one day and may find yourself in the same situation. My mom was nearly 103 when she died but she was blessed by having loving caring family and friends. Some are all alone. Do not judge others. BTW, I am 71 and able to do what I want or need to do. But, who knows what tomorrow will bring.

They only ask that from people they know have somebody to take care of them. Otherwise they bus them to skid row, wheelchair and all and just leave ‘em there.

Yep.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will gird you, and bring you where you do not wish to go."
John 21:18

Without a change of heart there will come a day when your words and actions will taste bitter and bring sorrow to your heart.

Bless you for loving and caring for your lucky dad!

And thanks for sharing your eye-opening experience, hoosiermama. Until one is faced with these issues first-hand, you can’t believe how fast things can change, and unfortunately it almost takes first-hand experience to have compassion for the disabled.

“Really. I thought they didn’t discharge anyone without making sure they had someone to help them.”

Well the other day I posted a story about the airlines. I had not idea they did not still serve hot food in coach.

It’s not the 1950’s anymore. Sucks don’t it?

Cherry is right in some of her statements. This patient was probably offered a nursing home bed, but refused. At that point, there is not much a hospital can do. More and more of societal ills are being dumped on to the hospitals. The hospital that I work at has ( in the past) paid rent, gas, and home heating bills for patients just to make a safe discharge. That costs money, and because of Obamacare ( decreased healthcare spending), hospitals are not as willing anymore to spend money that has no bearing on the healthcare the patient receives. This is a social issue, not a healthcare issue.
If society wants hospitals to bear the brunt of societies problems such as poverty, homelessness, lack of support systems than society needs to pay the hospitals so they can afford to hire people to deliver these services.
We are going to see more and more stories like this one due to Obamacare.

That has to be one of the more disgusting posts I’ve read in a long damn time.

How about some respect for an ELDERLY America?
Do you KNOW he has all those things? How about maybe his ONLY child is dead...or his wife?

ALOT of people are ONLY children, and they outlive their other relatives.

I’ve had a great uncle, and a great aunt put in one of those facilities by their children, and they ain’t nice.

I’d have a chat with God right about now, and pray that YOU aren’t ever in a situation like this Elder.

I called 911 and they put the call out and it took about 20 minutes... maybe 10 that felt like 20... and the first responders came down the lane. A couple "kids". I wasn't cut or bleeding, but the pain was tremendous... like imagine how your hand would feel laying flat on the ground with a car parked on it.

The look of terror in these "kids" eyes set the tone, and I calmed my wits and just gave instruction.

When I realized I was stuck and had to call 911, I had shut the machine off... 2hich was probably for the best, but introduced "complications" because the starting button was found to be (surprise, surprise) NFG, and so starting the machine requires a screwdriver across the terminals of the solenoid.

So I just guided the 2 kids through the process... "See that lever my finger is touching? Ok, now don't worry nothing will move. The rockshaft is down as far as it is going to go... take that lever and move it forward, just move it all the way forward, like 90 degrees."

They move it and still have this look of terror in their eyes.

"OK, now 'step 2'... the tractor won't crank so you are going to have to go in the toolbox on the left side rockshaft cover under the seat and get the screwdriver. Here hold on let me take weight off the seat so you can open the toolbox."

The one kid opens up the box and puts the screwdriver out.

"OK, do either of you guys know how to jumper a starter?"

They shake their heads "no".

I then explain that all we have to do is crank it and the rockshaft will slowly lift while cranking... I explain which 2 lugs they need to short across and after a few tried and some sparks, and some real trepidation, they get it cranking and soon the rockshaft is pumping up. I pull as the pressure releases and eventually just pull my hand free.

I thank them profusely and by that time other guys from 2 rescue squads areshowing up and the ambulance from the local hospital. One of the EMTs looks at the hand and says that I should probably get X-Ray... though nothing is obviously broken. They give me a ride over to the hospital... which I shoulda drove myself given how much the bill was.

Care at the ER took 2 hours. 3 X-rays, nothing broken, was given a "pain shot" (did nothing), ice bag, and a scrip for some steroid for the swelling... and that stuff sucked... made me all jittery.
