Fire ants invade North Texas with heavy rains
WFAA.com ^ | May 21, 2015 | Philip Townsend

The ants take turns walking on one another to stay out of the water and survive. They eventually build dense circles like the one Nathan captured on his phone.

"I was floored when I saw them," said Nathan's dad, Dwayne. "I had never seen anything like that."

I read an article back in the 90’s that a guy has developed a probe like device that you stick into the and apply an electrical charge that “shorts” out their antenna and they begin killing each other and the mound dies within days. I never saw another mention of it so I surmised the pesticide companies bought him out?

The premise made sense to me.

I don’t think they invaded N. Texas with the rains, I’m perty sure they were already there.

Any patents would be expired by now.

I had a car break down during the summer midway between Houston and Dallas. The blacktop was so hot I could feel it through the sole of my shoes.

I’d take a step off the pavement onto the dirt and have to contend with fierce ants.

As the sun went down, the blacktop cooled off (even before the sun had completely set) and the ants would venture onto the pavement.

It’s tough out there.

I saw this done on youtube. It was kind of neat, except for the comments from some ant huggers calling it “cruel” and “how would you like it some one did that to you.” morons

Not a new invasion. They were already here … the rains have driven them to the surface.
