Well if someone close to you does something unthinkable and you want to treat them with utter disdain, knock yourself out. I’d no more judge that than these cops for their reaction. I’m sure it’s an awful situation to find oneself in, especially for a law enforcement officer who is tasked with arresting someone they care about.
I did not expect them to abuse them just to treat him like they would anyone who murders their spouse in front of their children. Apparently that is too much to ask.

There is no excuse.
None.
And going “poor him” is misplaced sympathy.
The only person present (and living) who should have received a hug would be the seven year old child who was forced to witness her father murder her mother.
If your best friend murdered his wife in front of your best friend’s daughter, and you hugged him, what kind of message would you send to a child?
