Portman Statement on Legalization of Same-Sex Marriage “The issue of marriage equality is one that divides people of principle, and I understand that. In 2013, I decided to support marriage equality after I came to understand this issue better in the context of my own family. I can't help but view today's Supreme Court decision through that same lens. And as a father, I welcome today's decision. As I have said before, I would have preferred for this issue to be resolved by the democratic process in the states because I think you build a more lasting consensus that way. Now that the Court has reached its decision, I hope we can move past the division and polarization the issue has caused.”

So, Senator Portman finds out his son is gay and sells Ohioans down the river. And now he throws in a Rodney King imitation 'Can't we all just get along?'

I thought Ohio had a chance if we got rid of Herrod Brown. Portman and Kasich are just as bad.

I know, and I fear the same will be said soon in LA with Cassidy replacing Landrieu.

Another moron who can not distinguish between bogus claims of “equality” and rule of law.

in the eyes of the Lord Mr Poirtman You son is caught up in an ABOMINATION- NOTHING has changed that FACT- not the supreme court ruling, not your ‘evolving’ morals’ nothing- Your son is living in open rebellion to God and you have no right deeming that it’s ok now because it affects your family personally- You ARE betraying those who put you in office, and YOU sir should be ashamed of yourself!

It was like Portman was tasked with getting the ball rolling on gay marriage. Bottom line, he got elected by OH voters to represent his son.

He also loves lots of trade deals "for all the jobs it creates". So how come OH has so many abandoned factories?

These "Republicans" in OH disgust me. They were elected to provide a more sane, more conservative government. All they stand for is construction projects and the Chamber of Commerce.

Portman: “The issue of marriage equality is one that divides people of principle”

No Senator, your side has no principles. The more I read his statement the angrier I become.

If they wanted their novel definition incorporated into law then get the law changed.

To protect against judicial novelties citizens in several states have followed the legal procedures required in that State, procedures enacted by the elected legislature, to have placed before the voters a proposed amendment to the State Constitution. To have such a proposed amendment placed on the ballot is no small undertaking, typically requiring a large number of signatures collected in each district. The proposed amendment must then be adopted by the voters, typically with a requirement that 60% or more voters must approve for the amendment to be adopted.

There is nothing stopping them from doing likewise so that their novel definition is incorporated into the law.

There is no *right* to legal recognition of any grouping of persons assembled for whatever purpose.

Judges are not Legislators. For judges to impose upon society a novel definition, to aid the advocates of the novel definition to obtain what they could not obtain Legislatively is tyrannical and beyond the authority of their Office. The opinion of these judges can and must be ignored.

Portman has some explaining to do to his Creator. Woe to him and those with similar beliefs.

... I came to understand this issue better in the context of my own family.

Yes another fool who lacks the capacity to form ethical principles and then make applications. He has homosexual family members and lacks the moral integrity to condemn their behavior. So faced with the dilemma he condemns the ethical principle and those who actually stand on that principle. He adopts and irrational and emotional pseudo-ethic that calls integrity hate and abominable behavior love. It wasn't just marriage that has been redefined, but many other words and concepts also - like: love, hate, evil, good, family, liberty, law, justice, equality, life, religion, property and conscience, infringed, prohibited, commerce, regulate, morality, independence, rape, harassment, income, accountability transparency and citizen to name just a few. America is now occupied an occupied nation. We have been overthrown by and enemy that attacks by corrupting the vocabulary and coorrupting the leaders.

Yeah, it’s pretty bleak here in Ohio. Of 4 of my elected representatives, Herrod Brown, Portman, Kasich and Marcy Kaptur (can it get any worse?) Kaptur seems like the closest thing to a conservative.

Marcy Kaptur...can it get any worse?

This Kucinich town was gerrymandered to Marcia Fudge. I'd agree, you have it worse. Think positive...at least they didn't vote for ObamaTrade.

Oh, okay, well, since you put it that way, sure, Rob, I’ll just ignore religious teaching and my natural revulsion to perversion.
