FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Authorities say a Fort Bragg soldier has been charged with creating a panic at a North Carolina mall after appearing there with an assault rifle and other military gear.

Fayetteville police say Bryan Scott Wolfinger, 25, was arrested and charged with "going armed to the terror of the public" in connection with Thursday's incident at Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville.

A statement from the Fayetteville Police Department says Wolfinger was preparing to have photographs taken with the military equipment and rifle when 911 calls were received of an armed male at the mall.

He was being stupid and his commander will tell him so.

Current events is a requirement for a soldier in civilian life.

He could have easily had his uniform and weapons in a carry-all to the mall.

Please tell me that soliders don’t carry those long black guns with all those scary looking things mounted and use those cruved clips that hold like a billion bullets? I think they call them Glock AK14M4 fullautomatic shotguns?

It's hard to argue with people who have no common sense. Do I think the guy should be charged? No. But to think that people and the police would not be alarmed about this guy is idiocy.

Wake up! It's 2015!

the hysteria being stoked by libtards right now reminds me of the hysteria they created immediately after 9/11... where coming into their employee break room at their local Home Depot and finding a spilled sugar packet or some non-dairy creamer on the floor would prompt some special snowflake to immediately call the police about a possible terrorist anthrax attack. it got so commonplace and so illogical as to be counter-productive to idea of being on the lookout for jihadi attacks. it’s the same thing happening now. no common sense. no sense of proportion.

You got that right! We have a local mega mall with a weekend curfew of 6 pm unless accompanied by an adult because some of the inner city yutes have gotten so bad. My daughter and her friends were there after 6 last week and were asked to leave by security. They were dumb and didn't listen. The same security guy came up to them and said I'm not trying to be mean, it's for your own safety. Please let me escort you to your car. 6pm and they were in danger looking at a pair of jeans! Yet they would have been ok with a 5'6” lightweight mom with them?

I was thinking the same thing. Somewhere there is a platoon commander thinking “why me” while his buddies are laughing their butts off. Could have been worse, though. At least this soldier wasn’t a tank driver. Imagine the damage to the mall.

This soldier was “swatted” by anti-Bill of Rights radicals. Bloomberg groups have openly publicized that they are doing this when they see anyone open carry. There have been threads here on FR about them doing this elsewhere.

I say he got left-winged. How can one be charged with "was arrested and charged with "going armed to the terror of the public" if he wasn't illegally carrying?

That would mean that any time anyone decided to act distressed at the sight of a legally carried weapon, all of us who carry could be charged with some unconstitutional BS.

The U.S. Armed forces uniform now constitutes terrorism? Do they call the cops when an armed police officer walks by?

I can certainly agree the officers probably needed to check the soldier out to make sure he says who he really is...

After all, military gear isn't hard to come by...

A simple explanation to the LEO..

"I'm having a picture taken at the photographer" should have been the end of it...

"..There is such a law in NC.."

True. When I was stationed at Ft Dragg back in '81, I lived in Hope Mills. A sleepy l'il sortof-suburb of Fayettenam. One day a friend and I were out shooting near the train bridge. We slipped over to The Pantry to grab a soda and still had our pistols holstered. A Hope Mills cop motioned us over and gave us a heads up about that law. He said that carrying open was fine and legal, but that if someone cried to LE about it he'd hafta pop us on that charge. After that we talked guns for a bit and went our separate ways. Nobody complained that day. But ever since I've tried to keep such in mind.

Back on topic, it still comes back to just because it's legal doesn't mean you should. IMO that troop was a l'il absent minded in his actions and needs a slap-on-the-wrist. Best delivered from someone in his now red-faced chain of command. Hehehe. d;^)

I know. I laughed when I read that charge too. Can there really be such a charge?

Shalom from the beach!

This is in Israel. These soldiers are on vacation, but still carry.

Happy Independence Day.
